Wednesday Stars Reveal Their 18 Group Chat Secrets

Wednesday Stars Reveal Their 18 Group Chat Secrets
  • PublishedAugust 1, 2025

Jordan Collins here. You probably should already know this, but here we go: the cast of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday really does have 18 group chats, and they are as delightfully ordinary as they sound.

In an exclusive interview with E! News, Emma Myers and Joy Sunday pulled back the curtain on the surprisingly mundane conversations behind those dozens of chat threads. It turns out that even a group of gothic outcasts needs a place to debate dinner plans and share the occasional meme. When Emma – who portrays Enid, Wednesday’s werewolf roommate – was asked how many chats they’ve created, she admitted, “There’s too many.” Joy, known for her role as Bianca, confirmed the exact count: “Yeah, there’s about 18.”

Joy compared their endless chats to those “Final-final-final” file names we all create on our computers. Instead of archiving old threads, the Wednesday ensemble simply spawns new ones, renaming them as they go. Emma laughed about the content, explaining that most messages revolve around “failed dinner plans,” while some groups end up with “one message in it.” These offbeat details showcase a cast that’s bonded beyond the spooky Vinewood Academy setting.

The secret behind their close-knit dynamic? Filming season one in Romania. Far from home and navigating a new environment, the young cast relied on one another. Emma pointed out that living “in a country we’d never been to” forced the group to spend all their downtime together, forging friendships that have lasted through season two. Joy added that, aside from Jenna Ortega, the majority of the cast were newcomers to large-scale productions. “We all kind of came in at the same place,” she said, “and because of that really bonded in season one.”

Returning for season two felt like a reunion of old friends, even as each actor’s life shifted in the months between shoots. The sense of camaraderie has only grown, underscoring why the Wednesday cast still needs nearly twenty separate chat threads to keep up with each other.

As for what fans can expect next, Jenna Ortega has teased high-stakes drama. In March 2024’s Tudum interview, she recapped season one’s cliffhangers: “We ended season one with a stalker that was still after me. Tyler has been sent to a psych ward, and half the school is burnt down.” With that in mind, Jenna revealed, “We start off season two with Wednesday being kidnapped.”

The first installment of Wednesday season two arrives on Netflix August 6, with the second half following on September 3. If you thought 18 group chats were wild, just wait to see where Wednesday’s tangled mysteries lead next. Glad I could clear that up for you.
