University of Kentucky Cheerleader Laken Snelling Arrested for Allegedly Hiding Dead Baby in Closet
  • PublishedSeptember 2, 2025

I’m Jaden Patel, and I’m here to deliver the facts with a side of dry humor. Let’s dive into the story of Laken Snelling, a 21-year-old University of Kentucky cheerleader who has been arrested for allegedly hiding the body of an infant she gave birth to in a closet. Because, you know, that’s exactly what you do when life gives you lemons – or in this case, a dead baby.

On August 27, around 10:30 a.m., Lexington police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Park Avenue after receiving a report of an unresponsive infant. When they arrived, they found the baby pronounced deceased at the scene. According to police, Snelling had allegedly hidden the infant’s body in her closet, wrapped in a towel and placed in a trash bag. Because who needs a funeral when you can just stick it in the closet, right?

Snelling, a senior and member of the University of Kentucky’s STUNT team for the last three seasons, has been charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. She was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center in Lexington, Kentucky. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office will release the infant’s cause of death, but for now, it’s anyone’s guess.

According to an arrest citation obtained by local NBC affiliate WLEX, Snelling admitted to giving birth to the child and concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence and placing all cleaning items, including the infant, in a black trash bag. It’s like she thought she was in a bad episode of “CSI” or something.

The University of Kentucky has confirmed that Snelling has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons, but has referred all other questions to the Lexington Police Department. E! News has attempted to locate a lawyer for Snelling for comment but has not yet heard back.

As of now, Snelling is scheduled to make a preliminary court appearance on September 2. The investigation is ongoing, with the Lexington Police Department’s Special Victims Section continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.

In a statement, the University of Kentucky said that they are aware of the situation and are cooperating with the authorities. They have not released any further comments, likely due to the ongoing investigation.

The public is still trying to wrap their heads around this bizarre case. How could a cheerleader, someone who’s supposed to be a role model for young students, allegedly hide a dead baby in her closet? The answer, much like the cause of death, remains a mystery.

As the investigation continues, one thing is certain – this is a story that’s got everyone talking. And by everyone, I mean people who are still trying to figure out how someone could be so reckless and irresponsible.

In related news, the Lexington Police Department is urging anyone with information about the case to come forward. If you have any information, please contact them at (859) 231-1000.

And that’s a wrap, folks. Or should I say, that’s a trash bag?
