Tragic Twist: Gene Hackman’s Wife Succumbs to Rare Hantavirus
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Gene Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, tragically passed away from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), a rare and deadly disease, as confirmed by authorities on March 7. Interestingly, New Mexico has seen only one to seven reported cases of HPS annually over the last five years, making it a rare but significant health concern. Experts stress the importance of proper sanitation when dealing with rodent infestations, advocating for the use of gloves and N95 masks when cleaning areas potentially contaminated with rodent excreta.
As if this grim saga weren’t enough, Hackman, who was reportedly unaware of his wife’s passing for several days due to his cognitive decline, faced his own tragic fate shortly after Arakawa’s death.
