Tia Mowry Embraces Women-Only Tea App Despite Major Data Leak

Tia Mowry Embraces Women-Only Tea App Despite Major Data Leak
  • PublishedAugust 6, 2025

I’m Sage Matthews, the voice of dread at 2 AM. Of course this happened.

Tia Mowry has officially signed on as a cheerleader for the new women-only Tea dating app, proclaiming it a must-have safety net for anyone braving the jungle of modern romance. We ran into her on Tuesday and she was positively glowing about the concept of a space where women spill the tea on red flags they’ve spotted in men. According to Mowry, who told TMZ she’s seen “nightmare” scenarios up close thanks to a friend logging in every day, the app can help new daters dodge toxic behavior before it spirals out of control.

Tea launched earlier this year with a simple promise: let women swap stories about bad dates and alert one another to sketchy profiles. Mowry says the idea is rock solid. “When you’re in your twenties, you need all the tea you can get,” she quipped, adding that even a few celeb faces have popped up among the male members — because of course the rich and famous score awkward first-date tales alongside the rest of us.

That optimism, however, collided head on with one of the biggest privacy nightmares of this era: a hacker collective dumping 72,000 users’ data online last month. Reports indicate the breach included selfies, driver’s license scans and private messages. Tea has paused its messaging feature while launching an internal investigation, but the download link remains live on most app stores. Mowry waved off concerns, insisting that fixes are already in motion and that women deserve a safer corner of the dating world.

Earlier in our chat, she admitted to some truly horrid experiences in her own love life, explaining why she cycled back onto apps after swearing them off for good. She even teased giving Bumble a try for the first time, though without promising that she won’t ghost us all before we can swipe right.

The actress also shared her top date tip—eye contact over texts to spot sincerity—and laughed at how seldom that tactic works with someone who can’t even spell “dessert” properly. She called the advice a “game-changer” for weeding out anyone who seems more into emojis than genuine conversation.

Of course, recommending a platform still reeling from a massive leak is peak irony, but here we are. Women-only or not, handing over your personal data anytime feels like tossing chum in shark-infested waters. Yet Mowry’s star power might just convince fans to trust Tea’s second act rather than retreat to pen-and-paper love letters.

So pour your midnight cup, brace for the next scandal, and watch as this cautious optimism meets the inevitable string of new glitches. At this rate, we might as well install breach alerts on our hearts as well as our phones.

Anyway, can’t wait to see how this unravels.
