Ted Lasso Season 4 Shakes Up AFC Richmond with Major Cast Departures

Ted Lasso Season 4 Shakes Up AFC Richmond with Major Cast Departures
  • PublishedJuly 22, 2025

Kai Montgomery here, your grumpy guru who begrudgingly shares wisdom, rolling my eyes at the obvious but still breaking things down.

Oh, fantastic. Another cast list drop and my coffee is cold. Apple TV Plus has confirmed that Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, Hannah Waddingham and Jeremy Swift will return for Ted Lasso Season 4, while fan favorites Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed and a host of others are conspicuously missing from the roster.

In the streamer’s July 21 production announcement, the returning ensemble was laid out in black and white. Jason Sudeikis will suit up again as the ever-optimistic American coach. His coaching acolytes Goldstein, Temple, Hunt, Waddingham and Swift are all signed on to navigate Ted’s next misadventure. Filling out the squad for this fourth round are newcomers Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes and Aisling Sharkey. Abbie Hern and Grant Feely also join the fold, with Feely stepping into the shoes of Ted’s son, Henry, replacing Gus Turner in that role.

Meanwhile, the omissions speak volumes. Phil Dunster, who brought Jamie Tartt’s swagger to life across three seasons, was nowhere to be found. Equally absent were Nick Mohammed’s once-acerbic Nate Shelley, Sarah Niles’s Dr. Sharon Fieldstone, Anthony Head’s Rupert Mannion, Toheeb Jimoh’s Sam Obisanya, James Lance’s Trent Crimm, Cristo Fernandez’s Dani Rojas, Kola Bokinni’s Isaac McAdoo and Billy Harris’s Colin Hughes. Their non-mention implies that their storylines may be on ice until further notice, if they return at all.

Production reps for Dunster and Mohammed have not responded to E! News inquiries as of press time. Given how pivotal those characters were to AFC Richmond’s locker room drama and internal politics, their absence could signal major plot shifts in Season 4.

Apple TV Plus teases that this time, Ted’s biggest challenge is coaching a second division women’s football team. According to the official description, Ted and the squad will learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would. The streamer also released a first-look photo of Ted Lasso, Rebecca Welton, Keeley Jones and Leslie Higgins enjoying a classic diner meal in Kansas City, Missouri, Sudeikis’s real-life hometown. It’s the first glimpse fans have had since Season 3 wrapped in March 2023, and it comes after more than two years of suspense.

Season 4’s premiere date remains under wraps. Until then, here are other TV stars who shocked audiences by walking away from their hit shows. General Hospital lost Sofia Mattsson in summer 2025 after her seven-year run as Sasha Gilmore. Reality TV’s The Valley parted ways with Jax Taylor ahead of Season 3 as he prioritized sobriety and co-parenting amid divorce proceedings. Law and Order veteran Mehcad Brooks exited the crime drama after three seasons as Detective Jalen Shaw. HBO Max medical drama The Pitt saw Tracy Ifeachor step away after its breakout first season, citing creative closure. Even Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller met a brutal fate in The Last of Us, mirroring his character’s video game ending and shocking viewers when he was impaled on screen.

Well, that was as surprising as rain in England. On to the next shakeup.
