Suranne Jones’s ‘Vigil’ Heads to the Arctic for Thrilling Season 3
  • PublishedFebruary 19, 2025

Get ready for a frosty thrill ride! The BBC’s hit drama “Vigil,” starring the fabulous Suranne Jones, has been officially renewed for a third season, and this time it’s taking the action to the chilly Arctic Circle. Following two gripping seasons that powered through the depths of a submarine and soared through the skies, the series will relocate to a remote research station. Here, our dynamic duo, Amy Silva (played by Jones) and DI Kirsten Longacre (the undeniably talented Rose Leslie), are thrown into a treacherous investigation after a covert British special forces member gets shot. Talk about high stakes!

The plot thickens, as the duo must solve the murder while navigating a web of international tensions caused by a scramble for energy and resources in a warming Arctic. So not only are they racing against time to catch a killer, but their relationship and careers are also on the line. Intrigue? Check. Romance? Double check.

Series creator Tom Edge couldn’t be more excited about the new setting and opportunities for storytelling. “I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning for a new adventure… in the frozen north where the world’s great powers are competing to secure advantages as the ice melts,” he remarked. And don’t worry, fans of BBC’s signature style—Vigil will keep its edge, merging police procedural with high-stakes political drama.

This third season promises to deliver six suspenseful episodes, and production will be handled by World Productions, the same folks behind the iconic “Line of Duty.” So you know the quality is going to be top-notch. In its first two seasons, “Vigil” not only captured UK audiences, but it also found its way to American viewers via Peacock, proving that suspense knows no borders.

Before “Vigil” returns to our screens, fans can eagerly anticipate more from Jones, as she’s also teaming up with Jodie Whittaker in an ITV heist thriller. Whether it’s icy waters or high-stakes robbery, Suranne Jones is certainly keeping us on our toes!
