Stranger Things Star Finn Wolfhard Opens Up About Being Single and His Emotional Finale

Stranger Things Star Finn Wolfhard Opens Up About Being Single and His Emotional Finale
  • PublishedAugust 5, 2025

Riley Carter here, delivering the latest Stranger Things intel with just enough chill to feel earned.

Another day, another behind the scenes drop.

Finn Wolfhard confirmed to Variety that he is officially single as he gears up for the November 26 launch of Stranger Things season five on Netflix. The 22-year-old actor, best known for his role as Mike Wheeler, admitted he has intentionally kept his love life on pause while he digs into back-to-back projects and global promotions. “I’m single,” he stated in the August 5 interview, explaining that nonstop travel and intense filming schedules have made it difficult to cultivate a committed relationship.

In the same chat, Wolfhard reflected on why he deferred serious dating. He explained that since he’s been working hard on acting, directing, and music, devoting time to a partner simply did not fit. “Maybe it’s been deliberate? Just because I’m 22, I don’t really want to put my energy into that,” he said. Now that Stranger Things is drawing to a close, he hinted that opening up to romance might be in the cards once the cameras stop rolling.

The actor also spilled a teaser about his final on-set moment. He described a scene so full of genuine emotion that laughter and tears broke out among the cast. “There was true joy from everyone because of a moment that happened,” Wolfhard recalled. He laughed as he remembered the champagne corks popping when he walked off stage: “It was one of the greatest moments in my entire life.”

Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, offered his own recollection of that last shooting day in an interview with E! News in May. The 20-year-old said that while the first day felt routine, the final wrap was anything but. “It was very sad and perfect,” Schnapp admitted, adding with a grin that he probably cried the most during farewells. “I’m just so sensitive. We all love each other, so it’s hard to part ways.”

Meanwhile, the creative duo behind the show, Matt and Ross Duffer, originally conceived Stranger Things under the working title Montauk. As Matt told The Daily Beast, change was hard to sell to executives, but they ultimately landed on a name that resonated. Originally they wanted to film on Long Island, but shooting in winter proved impractical, leading them to set up production in Atlanta instead, as chronicled by The Hollywood Reporter.

Almost two dozen networks passed on the series before Netflix gave it a home. Seasons later, Stranger Things proves that betting on a young ensemble can pay off in a big way. Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven, famously shaved her head at age 12 to bring authenticity to her role, calling that moment empowering during a PaleyFest panel in 2018.

As fans count down to the final season, all eyes are on Wolfhard and his final bow as Mike Wheeler. With romance on hold and priorities set on career milestones, his single status may change once the world of Hawkins fades to black. Stay tuned for more exclusive insights as the show’s epic finale approaches.

Anyway, that’s the deal. Do with it what you will.
