Seth Rogen Reveals He Was Stunned by Ron Howard’s Furious Cameo

Seth Rogen Reveals He Was Stunned by Ron Howard’s Furious Cameo
  • PublishedJuly 15, 2025

Here’s the inside look: Seth Rogen has admitted that the one guest star who truly caught him off guard on Apple TV Plus’s hit comedy The Studio was none other than Ron Howard. In an exclusive interview with E! News, Rogen explained that although Howard’s role was fictional, his intensity felt all too real—and even surprised the series co-creator himself.

During his Emmy nominated turn as a version of himself, Howard unleashed a comedic rage that left Rogen reeling. “I honestly was amazed at how angry he seemed,” Rogen told E! News, referring to a scene in which Howard announces, “I think I’ll throw the hat at your face.” Sure enough, Howard proceeded to launch that signature headwear into Rogen’s skull not once but multiple times. “He hit me in the f–king head with that hat like eight takes in a row,” the Superbad alum recalled with mock exasperation.

Of course, chaos was practically guaranteed with a cast that includes comedy heavyweights Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz and Chase Sui Wonders. On set, Rogen would often shout “settle” to corral the group whenever things spiraled into playful anarchy. “It’s the double edged sword of working with good friends,” he admitted, “there’s a lot of leeway, but it can get unruly.”

When it came to cracking up the group, Kathryn Hahn was the MVP. “She would make us all break. Very often, very frequently,” Chase Sui Wonders revealed. And when any take went sideways, Rogen’s contagious laughter served as the ultimate on set buzzer. “If we were doing a scene and there was anything wrong with the take, Seth would just start laughing,” Ike Barinholtz explained. “It’s a nice way to tell everyone they f–ked up.”

Despite the hijinks, The Studio emerged as the most nominated breakout comedy series of all time at the 2025 Emmy Awards, racking up 23 nominations. In addition to Rogen and Barinholtz, O’Hara and Hahn earned individual acting noms, and the show snagged a spot in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. High profile guest stars have also drawn praise, with Emmy nods for Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Anthony Mackie, Martin Scorsese and Zoë Kravitz for playing heightened versions of themselves.

Catherine O’Hara summed up the cast’s excitement, telling E! News, “I am thrilled for all the lovely people on the show and honored to be in their company. I’m so happy Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese are finally getting some much deserved attention thanks to The Studio.”

More reactions poured in from across the Emmy roster. Javier Bardem, up for his role in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, shared, “This important story is a complex one, but I am proud of the humanity we brought to each character.” Jason Segel, nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Shrinking, wrote, “We are a family here and it’s a really happy day for Team Shrinking.” And 14-year-old Owen Cooper, recognized for his work in Adolescence, expressed awe at his nomination and gratitude to his co-stars, writers and director Phil Barantini.

That is your backstage pass. Stay tuned for more surprises.
