Savannah Chrisley Took Charge: The Real Reason She Kept Her Family in the Dark About Her Parents’ Pardons

Savannah Chrisley Took Charge: The Real Reason She Kept Her Family in the Dark About Her Parents’ Pardons
  • PublishedSeptember 1, 2025

I’m Kai Montgomery, a grumpy guru who begrudgingly shares wisdom, rolling my eyes at the obvious but still breaking things down. Look, I don’t want to be the one to say it, but here we are – diving into the drama-filled world of reality TV stars and their presidential pardons.

Savannah Chrisley, the eldest daughter of Todd and Julie Chrisley, recently spilled the tea on her family’s struggles in the premiere episode of Lifetime’s “The Chrisleys: Back to Reality” series. It turns out that Savannah was working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure her parents’ release from federal prison, and she wasn’t about to let her family members jeopardize the process.

In a conversation with her brother Chase, 29, Savannah, 28, revealed that she “refused” to let her family “screw up” her parents’ pardons. According to Savannah, her family members can’t be trusted to keep their mouths shut, and she’s not willing to risk their careless words or actions putting the pardons in jeopardy. “We all say in our family, if you want the world to know, tell Chase,” Savannah said with a hint of sarcasm. “So you can’t trust that they’ll keep their mouths shut.”

Savannah’s determination to keep her parents’ pardons under wraps is understandable, given the high stakes involved. Todd, 56, and Julie, 52, were convicted of bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion in 2022. After an appeals court upheld their convictions, Todd was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Julie received a seven-year sentence. However, thanks to Savannah’s relentless efforts, the reality TV stars were ultimately pardoned by President Donald Trump in May after serving just over two years of their sentences.

The Chrisley family’s journey has been documented in their new Lifetime docuseries, “The Chrisleys: Back to Reality,” which chronicles their experiences dealing with the aftermath of Todd and Julie’s incarcerations. The series also follows Savannah as she works to secure her parents’ release and rebuild their lives.

In a recent interview with ABC News, Savannah opened up about the making of the new docuseries and how it differs from their previous show, “Chrisley Knows Best.” According to Savannah, “The Chrisleys: Back to Reality” offers a more authentic look at their family’s struggles, peeling back the layers to reveal the dysfunction, fights, and tears they endured during Todd and Julie’s time behind bars.

Todd and Julie have also spoken publicly about their experiences, including the moment they learned about their pardons and the first thing they did after being released. In their sit-down with ABC News, the couple shared their gratitude for Savannah’s efforts and praised her for her determination and hard work.

As the Chrisley family continues to navigate their new reality, one thing is clear: Savannah is a force to be reckoned with. Her unwavering dedication to her parents and her refusal to let her family members jeopardize their pardons are a testament to her strength and resilience.

And that, dear reader, is why we can’t have nice things – or in this case, why we can’t have a drama-free celebrity family.
