While an exact move-in date remains under wraps, it’s likely that the family will be calling Forest Lodge home by the end of the year. The sprawling estate, which boasts eight bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a tennis court, dates back to the 1770s and comes with a cool $21 million price tag.

The Waleses’ house hunt was made public in July, with sources revealing that they were searching for a larger home with more square footage, larger gardens, and – crucially – more privacy. In keeping with their current lifestyle at Adelaide Cottage, the family will be looking to maintain a sense of normalcy for their children, meaning they won’t have any live-in staff at the new estate.

It’s likely that the Wales family will continue living without a dedicated butler, although their children’s longtime nanny, Maria Turrion Borrallo, is expected to move into a smaller property on the estate. The family’s new home sits just 30 minutes away from Princess Catherine’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, who have been instrumental in caring for the couple’s three children.

Prior to settling on Forest Lodge, the future king and queen had their sights set on Fort Belvedere – a stunning gothic-revival mansion located just a stone’s throw away from Windsor Great Park. They also considered moving into Royal Lodge – the 30-room Windsor mansion where Prince Andrew currently resides with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.

In June, heavily-redacted planning applications were lodged with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council, for both internal and external renovations to the property. The request was granted the following month.
