Royal Family Winks at Meghan’s Palace Dance Homage

Royal Family Winks at Meghan’s Palace Dance Homage
  • PublishedJune 26, 2025

Oh, great—another palace-approved bit of social media theater. The royal family’s official Instagram account couldn’t resist chiming in on a cheeky ballroom re-creation at Buckingham Palace, and yes, it involves Meghan Markle’s “Baby Mama Dance.” According to E! Online, Made in Chelsea alums Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo decided to channel Markle’s viral moves for The King’s Trust charity bash on June 25 (E! Online). Dressed in a dramatic yellow gown, Sophie flaunted her baby bump on the palace’s velvet steps while Jamie gamely circled her to Meghan’s Mic Drop Mama track.

You’d think Buckingham Palace would have a “no filming” policy, but apparently that only applies until your friends start going viral. The couple cheekily captioned their clip, “They said we couldn’t film inside the royal residence,” and promptly uploaded the footage anyway (People magazine). The crown’s social media manager responded with nothing but the iconic eyes and wink emojis, plus the tantalizing comment, “We see you.” If that isn’t a green light for viral content, I don’t know what is.

And just to prove it wasn’t a one-off, the King Charles–founded charity account quipped, “All of our attendees are very well-behaved.” Translation: Come for the philanthropy, stay for the palace dance floor drama.

This playful exchange lands three weeks after Meghan herself shared a throwback video marking daughter Lilibet’s fourth birthday. In the clip, Markle—eight months pregnant with Lilibet—breaks into that same signature dance to induce labor, since spicy food and acupuncture had failed her (E! Online). She captioned it, “Four years ago today, this also happened,” reminding followers that desperate times call for desperate dance moves.

Between palace wink-fests and royals chasing TikTok trends, you’d think they’d let the commoners breathe. But hey, if a winking emoji from the official royal feed is the crown’s idea of breaking news, consider the Internet properly fed. And that’s today’s dose of reality. You’re welcome.
