Rob Lowe Fires Back at Tour Guide Over John Stamos Mix-Up

Rob Lowe Fires Back at Tour Guide Over John Stamos Mix-Up
  • PublishedApril 18, 2025

Look, I don’t want to be the one to remind you that Hollywood’s memory can be shockingly short, but here we are with Rob Lowe, 61, taking matters into his own hands after a Beverly Hills tour bus driver labeled him John Stamos. In a clip Lowe dropped on Instagram April 15, the West Wing alum saunters over as the guide proudly announces, “This is John Stamos.” Cue Lowe’s eye-roll and a silent “What the f—?” that anyone with ears could read.

Naturally, Lowe demanded some basic fact-checking from the passengers: “Okay guys, am I John Stamos? Who am I?” Amid laughs, the group shouted back, “Rob Lowe!” I told you so: sometimes a live audience knows more than your average tour operator. Not impressed, Lowe hollered at the driver, “Dude, you gotta get better at your job!” The driver, unfazed and probably rehearsing his next bad pun, shrugged, “It’s about having fun, you know? I don’t expect to run into people so… but thank you for your cool energy, man.”

True to form, Lowe brushed it off with a chuckle and advised the tourists, “Don’t listen to him.” His caption tagged son Johnny Lowe—“@johnnylowe am I being Punk’d?”—earning a zinger reply: “The people have spoken.” Sex and the City’s Kristin Davis chimed in with an “Oh my god,” while New Girl’s Lamorne Morris shouted, “Love John Stamos!” Meanwhile, Stamos himself, also 61, stays quiet on the whole identity crisis, presumably enjoying the free publicity.

This saga is classic ’80s nostalgia gone sideways. Both Lowe and Stamos stormed to fame back then—Stamos on Full House and Lowe lighting up screens in The Outsiders, St. Elmo’s Fire, and Wayne’s World. Fast-forward to today, and Lowe’s your go-to presidential staffer on The West Wing, then the enthusiastic Chris Trager on Parks and Rec. Yet, somehow, a bus gig beat him at name game. I told you so: never trust a smiley guide to remember who’s who.

If you needed proof that fame doesn’t guarantee flawless recognition, here it is—served with a side of bus humor and Lowe’s signature sass. And that, dear reader, is why we can’t have nice things.
