Rainn Wilson Trades in His Schrute Badge for a New Role: Death Doula

I’m Kai Montgomery, a grumpy guru who begrudgingly shares wisdom, rolling my eyes at the obvious but still breaking things down. And, apparently, Rainn Wilson is done with acting – or at least, considering a career change that has nothing to do with Dwight Schrute’s beet-farming skills.
Rainn Wilson, the 59-year-old actor best known for his iconic role as Dwight Schrute in “The Office,” recently revealed on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” that he might be hanging up his acting boots to pursue a rather unconventional career: becoming a death doula. Yes, you read that right – a death doula. For those who don’t know, a death doula is similar to a pregnancy doula, but instead of helping a woman give birth, they assist individuals and their families in navigating the dying process with dignity and respect.
Wilson explained that this new career path resonates with him on a spiritual level, as he believes in the continuation of the human soul beyond the material realm. “It’s a different kind of birth, right? It’s a birth into the next phase of our existence,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of creating a healing space for individuals and their loved ones to mourn, grieve, and celebrate the transition.
Seth Meyers, the late-night host, expressed his hope that Wilson would continue acting and pursue this new career on the side. “I would like you to keep doing both,” Meyers said. “I don’t want you to stop one just to work on the other, but I think you’d be very good at both.” Wilson appreciated the suggestion, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll take Meyers’ advice.
This isn’t Wilson’s first foray into spirituality; he’s been open about his interests on his “Soul Boom” podcast. His home was severely damaged in the California wildfires last year, which might have contributed to his introspection about life’s meaning and the afterlife.
Interestingly, Wilson’s potential career change comes as a new “The Office” spinoff, “The Paper,” premiered on Peacock. Although Wilson isn’t part of the new series, his former co-star Oscar Núñez revealed that Wilson was the first to suspect that a spinoff was in the works. Núñez exclusively told The Post that Wilson has a knack for staying informed about what’s happening behind the scenes.
When asked about not being invited back for “The Paper,” Wilson expressed his sadness about leaving Scranton behind. “I don’t see how Dwight goes from Scranton to wherever they’re shooting it in the Midwest,” he said. However, he’s open to collaborating with the show’s creator, Greg Daniels, if given the opportunity.
As Wilson contemplates his next steps, fans can’t help but wonder: will he trade in his Schrute badge for a death doula’s compassionate ear? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – Rainn Wilson is taking the road less traveled, and we can’t help but be intrigued.
And that, dear reader, is the latest on Rainn Wilson’s journey into the unknown.
