In a heartbreaking loss for the fashion community, ShaVi Lewis, a talented contestant on season 18 of “Project Runway,” has passed away at the young age of 38. His aunt, Deirdra “DivaDoll” Elkerson, broke the news on Facebook, sharing her profound grief and urging friends and family to keep Lewis’s loved ones—his mother, father, brother, and sister—in their thoughts. Elkerson’s heartfelt tribute not only expressed her sorrow but celebrated Lewis’s impact on those around him, declaring, “You left a hell of a mark on this Earth!!!”
Lewis, who hails from Hillside, N.J., not only had a flair for fashion but a journey that began early in childhood. Inspired by his seamstress grandmother, he dreamed of becoming a designer from the age of seven and went on to hone his craft at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology during his high school summers. Although he attended Clark Atlanta University for fashion design, he didn’t graduate but instead channeled his creativity into building his own clothing line and serving as the creative director for the Italian menswear brand, Stephen F. During his time on “Project Runway,” where he competed alongside industry giants like Karlie Kloss and Christian Siriano, Lewis was known for his dramatic style and innovative designs. Despite being eliminated midway through the competition, his work has since graced the red carpet at notable events like the Emmys and been featured on the acclaimed series “Pose.”
The shocking news of Lewis’s passing elicited an outpouring of love from fans and co-stars alike. Brittany Allen, another contestant from season 18, expressed her sorrow with poignant words, stating, “The world and this industry will be dim without your light in it.”
