Pattinson’s Batman Part II Gears Up for 2026 Shoot Amid Script Drama

Pattinson’s Batman Part II Gears Up for 2026 Shoot Amid Script Drama

Jaden Patel here with my signature deadpan flair, delivering the news that Warner Bros. Discovery has officially slated spring 2026 as the kickoff for Batman Part II production.

Ah yes, another thrilling day in the entertainment circus where a superhero sequel’s timeline stretches longer than a villain origin story. According to a recent shareholder letter cited by Variety, shooting on The Batman: Part II will begin in spring 2026 with an eye on an October 1, 2027 release date. That gives Matt Reeves nearly four years between installments to perfect his script and pond scum jokes, or whatever creative genius bubbling in his head.

The first film, helmed by Reeves and released in March 2022, hauled in over $770 million worldwide. Robert Pattinson is set to return in the cowl at age 39, alongside Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman, Paul Dano’s Riddler, Colin Farrell’s Penguin, John Turturro’s Carmine Falcone and Andy Serkis’s Alfred. Variety notes the sequel has been bumped back repeatedly—from an original October 2, 2026 slot to this fresh October 1, 2027 date—likely giving Reeves extra time to ponder pedestrian crime in a gothic metropolis.

In June, Reeves confirmed via Instagram that he wrapped the sequel’s script, but the delays didn’t go unnoticed. Over at Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn, now co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, defended his predecessor’s pace: “People should get off Matt’s nuts because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs,” Gunn quipped. He added that Reeves “doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie,” reminding fans that creativity seldom obeys a calendar.

Pattinson, the actor resigned to his future wrinkles under the cowl, admitted in a Hero magazine interview that he’s concerned he’ll be “too f—king old” by the time cameras roll. “I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f—king old Batman by the sequel,” he confessed, perhaps wondering if capes stick better to youth than to experience.

Since his turn under the dark mask, Pattinson has ventured into Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi epic Mickey 17, tackled Christopher Nolan’s upcoming odyssey, and signed on for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three. Meanwhile, Gunn’s own Superman reboot, starring David Corenswet, has soared past $500 million globally since its July 11 opening, prompting him to tease a follow-up that may or may not wear the classic “Superman” label.

The new DC release roster also includes Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie and set to debut June 26, 2026, followed by Clayface with Tom Rhys Harries targeting September 11, 2026. By contrast, Marvel’s Fantastic Four is suffering a steeper box office drop, making the Man of Steel’s box office resilience look almost human.

Well, that was illuminating. Tune in next time for more cinematic contortions and the inevitable public pleas for patience.
