Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne Biopic in the Works at Sony

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne Biopic in the Works at Sony
  • PublishedAugust 7, 2025

Kai Montgomery here. Fantastic, the world lost Ozzy Osbourne and now the studios can’t wait to sell our tears back to us on the big screen. Let’s cut through the fanfare and get down to brass tacks on this newly announced Sony Pictures project chronicling Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s famously stormy love story.

According to Variety and confirmed by New York Post, Polygram Entertainment is currently in talks with a director to helm the film, and insiders say an announcement could drop any day now. Back in 2021, Polygram teamed up with the Osbourne family’s own media company to secure rights and attach heavy hitters like screenwriter Lee Hall, whose credits include “Rocketman” and “Billy Elliot.” Sharon Osbourne, age 72, plus two of her kids, Jack and Aimee, are listed as producers, ensuring the family stamp of approval on a story they’ve described as “wild, insane and dangerous” yet bound by “undying love.”

This cinematic tribute will cover everything from Ozzy’s punk rock rise as Black Sabbath’s frontman to his solo career antics. Reports confirm it will feature authentic Black Sabbath tracks alongside classic Ozzy solo hits, so you can bet the soundtrack will be louder than your neighbor’s lawnmower on a Sunday morning.

Ozzy, who passed away on July 22 at age 76, leaves behind a blend of six children and a legacy that most biopics would kill for. With Sharon by his side for nearly four decades, their marriage survived scandals, health scares and those reality TV years when everyone learned how to eat soup without liquid.

The rocker’s death certificate, released August 5, lists cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease as official causes. His youngest son, Jack Osbourne, broke his silence on Instagram with a short but heartfelt note, quoting Hunter S. Thompson about living life “broadside in a cloud of smoke.” Fans saw a montage of father and son moments set to Ozzy’s 1983 ballad “So Tired,” which was the most direct message you’ll get about keeping a stiff upper lip in this family.

Ozzy’s funeral in Birmingham, England, and his lakeside burial at the family estate in Buckinghamshire wrapped up a chapter that Hollywood studios are now eager to dramatize. Sharon, Jack and Aimee are expected to have final creative say, so at least we won’t get a cookie-cutter rock biopic filled with CGI bats and bikinis.

Negotiations with a director have heated up behind closed doors. With Lee Hall’s script likely locked in, the focus now shifts to casting two very different icons who must capture Ozzy’s chaos and Sharon’s steel-trap determination. Will we see a familiar face or a breakout talent? Stay tuned – studios don’t hand out these plum gigs to hacks.

There you have it. A blockbuster romance sprinkled with metal riffs, family drama and health crises. This is Hollywood after all – tragedy plus star power equals box office gold. And that, dear reader, is why we can’t have nice things.
