Olivia Munn Shuns Seven-Figure Settlement After “Traumatic” Set Experience

Olivia Munn Shuns Seven-Figure Settlement After “Traumatic” Set Experience
  • PublishedFebruary 19, 2025

Olivia Munn isn’t holding back when it comes to her experience on a film set that she described as “traumatic.” On a recent episode of Monica Lewinsky’s “Reclaiming” podcast, the actress opened up about an incident severe enough to warrant her filing complaints with the studio—in an era dominated by the #MeToo movement. It’s pretty impactful considering when Munn faced her issue; the spotlight was already on Hollywood’s dark side, following the revelations surrounding Harvey Weinstein.

Munn revealed that after her report, she was offered a stunning seven-figure sum to sweep her experience under the rug, which came with a nondisclosure agreement (NDA). “It was a lot of money to accept their apology, but it came with constraints that felt morally wrong,” she said. This episode resonates with the growing trend of celebrities advocating for their rights and the rights of others, a notable shift as more voices emerge against systemic issues in Hollywood.

Interestingly, Munn’s situation isn’t isolated. Other leading ladies, like Scarlett Johansson and Kate Winslet, have also voiced their concerns about NDAs that often protect perpetrators rather than the victims. The financial lure of such offers is an all-too-familiar narrative, often reminiscent of the silence imposed on many victims in the industry.

Munn chose to trust her gut, opting to turn down the settlement and take a stand instead, even though she admitted she was fueled by a mix of frustration and indignation. “I walked out of there feeling so proud,” she reflected. Despite facing internal battles, she now wishes she had considered her options more carefully.

This isn’t the first time Munn has taken a stand on set. In 2018, she bravely pushed to have a scene cut from “The Predator” after discovering co-star Steven Wilder Striegel’s sex offender status. She didn’t mince her words then either, expressing the difficulty in her conviction. “I kind of feel like I’m the one going to jail,” she quipped, underlining her unfazed commitment to decency in film.

Olivia Munn is definitely a name to remember as she continues to challenge the boundaries of film industry norms. She’s proving that sometimes it’s worth more to speak up than to cash out.
