Nicole Kidman Hits Pause: The Oscar Winner’s Well-Deserved Downtime After a Year of Non-Stop Work

Well, folks, it seems even the most illustrious stars need to recharge their batteries now and then. Nicole Kidman, the 57-year-old Australian dynamo, has declared she’s ready for a break after an exhausting whirlwind of projects that would make even the most caffeinated among us shudder. Speaking at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin, Kidman revealed her plans to take a breather after her recent slate of productions, including *Expats*, *A Family Affair*, *The Perfect Couple*, *Spellbound*, *Babygirl*, and the second season of *Lioness*. With her calendar now boasting only *Holland* and *Nine Perfect Strangers* before she calls it a year, she quipped, “So, oh well!”
*Holland*, which had its premiere at SXSW, features Kidman in the role of a suspicious teacher who, alongside her friend played by Gael García Bernal, delves into the mysterious double life of her husband, portrayed by Matthew Macfadyen. The thriller, set in a quaint Midwestern town, promises to add a delightful dose of intrigue to her diverse portfolio. Meanwhile, she’ll also reprise her role as the enigmatic wellness guru Masha Dmitrichenko in the Hulu hit *Nine Perfect Strangers*, which is set to introduce a new cast of characters that includes Murray Bartlett and Christine Baranski.
But let’s not forget the icing on the cake: Kidman recently snagged the International Star Award at the 2025 Palm Springs International Film Festival for her performance in *Babygirl*. Receiving the award from none other than Jamie Lee Curtis, Kidman gave an emotional tribute to her late mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, stating, “My whole career has been for my mom and my dad, who are not here now.” In that moment, the audience melted—because who doesn’t love a good tear-jerker?
With *Holland* set to stream on Prime Video starting March 27, it appears that Kidman is leaving us with a tantalizing taste of her talent before she steps back into the shadows for some well-deserved R&R. Who could blame her? After all, even Hollywood icons deserve a timeout.
