Missing College Student Sparks Urgent Search in Dominican Republic

Missing College Student Sparks Urgent Search in Dominican Republic
  • PublishedMarch 9, 2025

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old junior at the University of Pittsburgh, vanished while taking a leisurely stroll on the beach during her spring break getaway at the Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Last seen in the early hours of March 6, her disappearance has sent waves of concern through her family, friends, and the broader community. A citizen of India and a resident of Virginia’s Loudoun County, Sudiksha was part of a group of seven female students enjoying what should have been a carefree vacation.

As the days passed without any leads, the Dominican Civil Defense ramped up search efforts, deploying drones and helicopters to scour the area. Unfortunately, their efforts have thus far yielded little to no success, leaving authorities and loved ones in a state of despair. The search officially began on March 8, but the lack of concrete information about her last known whereabouts has complicated the investigation.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has been proactive, coordinating with federal and state law enforcement, as well as maintaining communication with the Embassy of India, which is taking the lead on the ground. Meanwhile, the university has expressed its full support, with spokesperson Jared Stonesifer emphasizing the need for community involvement. “We have offered our full support in their efforts to find her and bring her home safely,” he stated, urging anyone with information to step forward.

Social media has become a vital tool in spreading the word, with friends and family mobilizing support through missing posters and social media campaigns. “The more people who know, the better the chances we can bring her home safely,” read one such call to action, highlighting the critical role that public awareness plays in situations like these.

As the search continues, Sudiksha is described as 5’3” tall, with black hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a brown bikini and accessories that may help identify her. The urgency of this case resonates widely, as it underscores the potential dangers that can lurk even in idyllic settings. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and share any information that could aid in her safe return.
