Mark Geragos Bets on Light Diddy Sentence—Here’s the Fuss

Mark Geragos Bets on Light Diddy Sentence—Here’s the Fuss
  • PublishedJuly 2, 2025

Brace yourself for a defense attorney moonlighting as Nostradamus. On the July 2 episode of the “2 Angry Men” podcast, veteran lawyer Mark Geragos confidently predicted that Sean “Diddy” Combs will likely walk away with just over a year behind bars for his recent Mann Act convictions. Sure, this sounds like legal alchemy, but Geragos backed it up with public records and insider logic.

Geragos and co-host Harvey Levin dissected the verdict that cleared Diddy of racketeering and sex trafficking but landed him guilty on two lesser counts: transportation for prostitution across state lines. With the maximum sentence looming at 20 years, conventional wisdom says the judge could toss the book at him. Geragos, however, crunched the numbers—citing U.S. Sentencing Guidelines starting points of 21 months for defense and an eye-popping 51 months for prosecutors—and landed on a cozy 12- to 18-month range. Since Diddy’s already been in custody for nearly 10 months, Geragos figures time served will shave off most of that sentence.

To bolster his argument, Geragos invited his daughter, Teny Geragos, co-lead on Diddy’s defense, onto the show. Her on-air reaction—half celebration, half awkward surprise—speaks volumes about the team’s confidence. Plus, she’s pregnant, which Harvey was all too eager to mention. If that doesn’t humanize a case involving high-profile allegations, I don’t know what does.

Judge Arun Subramanian, who’s scheduled to hear arguments on July 8, holds the real trump card. Geragos warns that a push for expedited sentencing could throw a wrench in his forecast, but remains undeterred. His track record includes acquittals in Hollywood’s most notorious trials, so perhaps a pinch of faith is warranted. Still, betting on a judge’s mercy in a headline-making case—especially one that’s drawn coverage from TMZ, People Magazine, and legal analysts at Law.com—strikes me as optimistic at best.

Even Diddy seemed to sense the gravity of his situation; TMZ’s cameras caught him on his knees praying as the jury delivered the verdict. God knows he’s hoping Geragos nailed it this time. Meanwhile, prosecutors insist on harsher guidelines, pointing to detailed sentencing memos and victim impact statements. Whether Judge Subramanian sides with the defense’s math or the prosecution’s tougher stance will determine if Diddy’s summer of freedom is a reality TV episode or a reality check.

And of course, we can’t forget the public’s role: social media’s already buzzing with hot takes from legal pundits to casual observers. Was Geragos right to downplay a potential multi-year stretch? Will the judge flex for a high-profile defendant? Stay tuned, because if history proves anything, it’s that celebrity courtrooms are as unpredictable as they come.

So there you have it—another courtroom circus teetering on a sentencing scale. Don’t blink: July 8 might just be the day the soothsayer’s crystal ball cracks.
