Luke Bryan Unsure About American Idol Season 24 Comeback

Luke Bryan Unsure About American Idol Season 24 Comeback
  • PublishedJuly 31, 2025

Hey there, it’s Quinn Parker buzzing with too much coffee and zero chill. Buckle up, because our favorite country judge might be riding off into the sunset from American Idol Season 24 and I have thoughts faster than my third espresso shot.

During a July 30 chat with Taste of Country, Luke Bryan admitted his seat on the Idol panel is decided one year at a time. He confessed, “Idol is kind of a year-by-year, ‘Do we do it or not?’ We’ll see what happens.” Translation: the cowboy hat is on standby but not nailed down yet.

Reflecting on Season 23, Luke gushed that working alongside Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest was “really, really incredible.” Sources confirm the trio clicked like a dream team in front of the cameras and behind the scenes, turning every critique into a masterclass in kindness and candor.

So what about Carrie Underwood’s rookie run at the judges’ desk? Luke’s prediction is “highly favorable” that the Season 4 champ will giddy-up back for Season 24. He reminded us she said on SiriusXM’s Music Row Happy Hour that her goal is to be honest but still kind, flipping the script on the hard-edged judges we’ve seen before.

And yes, Simon Cowell chimed in with approval. In a September interview with E! News, the of-the-permanent scowl judge-turned-mentor shared, “I think it’s a good choice. Carrie, we go back a long way. She’s such a sweet person.” Simon even encouraged her to “just say how you feel,” proving you don’t need drama to make great TV.

While Luke mulls his return, let me drop some throwback intel on past Idol stars who soared after the show. Kelly Clarkson went from inaugural champ to three Grammys, three Billboard No. 1 hits and now hosts her own daytime talk show. Clay Aiken used his runner-up platform to advocate LGBTQ rights on Good Morning America and even made a 2016 congressional run. Ruben Studdard, another Season 2 favorite, snagged a Grammy nod and toured with Clay in 2023 and 2024. And Season 3’s Jennifer Hudson turned her win into Oscar glory, but she’ll always remember her Idol roots when she belts out those power ballads.

So will Luke Bryan saddle up again for Season 24? Your guess is as good as mine until ABC makes the call. In the meantime, I’ll be sipping my fourth Americano and refreshing my feed. Okay, I need to calm down after that!
