“Love Is Blind” Needs More Nice Guys: EP Ally Simpson Sounds the Alarm
  • PublishedMarch 12, 2025

In a candid revelation, Ally Simpson, the executive producer of the Netflix phenomenon “Love Is Blind,” recently articulated a crucial missing ingredient for the show’s success: “nice men.” After a lackluster eighth season, which saw only one couple successfully tie the knot, it’s clear that the show is in dire need of a charming overhaul. In a March 10 interview with Rolling Stone, Simpson lamented the casting challenges they face, particularly in attracting genuinely kind-hearted contenders. “We want people to want to do it because we’ve seen it work,” she emphasized, underscoring the potential for love in this social experiment.

However, it seems the rise of social media has cast a long shadow over the casting pool. Simpson noted that many thoughtful candidates are deterred by the public scrutiny that comes with reality TV fame. It’s no wonder; the pressure to maintain a polished public persona can be daunting, especially for individuals looking for real connections rather than fleeting fame. To combat this, they’ve turned to past contestants for support, allowing them to shed light on the authentic experience of participating in the show.

Despite the challenges, there are success stories to celebrate. Season seven’s Taylor Krause found her match in Garrett Josemans, while season four’s Bliss Poureetezadi-Goytowski and Zack Goytowski welcomed their daughter Galileo in May 2024, proving that love can blossom even in the most unconventional circumstances. Bliss poignantly remarked in a recent interview with People about how their journey is a testament to life’s unpredictable nature, stating, “Our story wasn’t a straight line… sometimes things aren’t perfect.”

Yet, not every couple can boast such rosy outcomes. The latest season saw couples like Lauren O’Brien and David Bettenburg, and Monica Danús and Joey Leveille fall short, illustrating that even the most compatible duos can falter under the pressure of commitment. As Simpson rightly pointed out, the show’s success isn’t measured solely by wedding bells but rather by the authenticity of the connections made. With a renewed focus on attracting “nice men,” perhaps “Love Is Blind” will regain its footing and deliver more heartwarming tales of romance in future seasons.
