Lizzo’s Body Transformation: She Gets Real About Fitness and Mental Health

Oh great, another celebrity fitness saga to dissect. This time it is Lizzo who, fed up with her own excuses, decided to revamp her health routine and inadvertently trimmed more than she expected while chasing mental clarity. In a recent Women’s Health interview, the singer acknowledged that workouts are her go-to mood lifter. “I’ve never regretted a workout,” she said, stressing she exercises for mental health before anything else. A TikTok clip from May 2023 underlines her shift in focus: endorphins, not inches, were her first targets.
The transformation began when Lizzo, born Melissa Jefferson, realized self-love did not have to exclude self-improvement. Her fitness regime expanded from casual cardio to Pilates, strength training and daily walks. In a February 2024 TikTok she admitted that walking erases stress, anxiety and tension by the time she finishes putting one foot in front of the other. By July she was mixing things up with thrice-weekly training sessions, cardio bursts, pickleball matches and beach hikes.
Diet adjustments played a starring role too. After years as a vegan, Lizzo decided her body needed more protein. Eggs, tuna and poultry joined the menu, while potato chips, sugary coffee drinks and soda were shown the exit. She did not swear off alcohol entirely—she earned her occasional glass of wine, she quipped to the magazine. Balance, she insists, is the true sign of health.
Holistic self-care routines fortified her progress. Daily sauna visits, lymphatic massage, wood therapy and other bodywork became nonnegotiable items on her calendar. This comprehensive approach left her feeling stronger and more grounded than ever.
Lizzo’s candid recollections reveal the push and pull of public scrutiny. She pointed out that her body-positive message never meant she wanted to stay in one place physically. In a June 2020 TikTok she declared, “I’m working out to have my ideal body type. And you know what type that is? None of your f–king business.” Still, as her music soared and her profile rose, critics wondered if she had betrayed her plus size advocacy by embracing weight loss.
Her reaction echoes Adele’s experience after shedding 100 pounds over two years. The Hello singer told British Vogue that she understood fans feeling hurt, but affirmed, “I’m still the same person.” Likewise, Lizzo has been candid about off days. In a March 2024 New York Times feature she admitted that body confidence fluctuates. Some days she adores her reflection, on others she settles for neutrality.
Today Lizzo champions body neutrality as a modern mantra. She dedicates daily moments to show respect for the vessel that carries her through life. Her fitness odyssey serves up a reminder that real self-care is as much a mental commitment as it is physical.
And that’s today’s dose of fitness truth served cold. Try not to choke on it.
