Lindsay Lohan Channels Iconic Freaky Friday Halter Look at ‘Freakier Friday’ London Premiere
  • PublishedAugust 1, 2025

Hi, I’m Kai Montgomery, your resident Grumpy Guru, rolling my eyes at obvious celeb news but here to enlighten you anyway.

Oh, fantastic. Yet another star dipped into the Y2K nostalgia bin.

At London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on July 31, Lindsay Lohan strutted the red carpet for the Freakier Friday premiere in a look that could have been cloned from her 2003 Freaky Friday finale. The 39-year-old donned a custom lavender halter dress by Ludovic de Saint Sernin complete with a structured bustier and gold-embellished accents, according to E! News. To complete the flashback, she carried a red guitar-shaped Judith Leiber purse, calling to mind Anna Coleman’s climactic stage entrance with her band Pink Slip.

This appearance wasn’t a one-off exercise in throwback dressing. Throughout the Freakier Friday promo circuit, Lohan has embraced early 2000s style like a director revisiting his first hit. She slipped into a body-con Roberto Cavalli mini skirt with zebra print, then switched to a plaid Balmain two-piece that looked like it was plucked straight from a high school reunion photo album. Fashion critics noted on Instagram that her choices are less tribute and more strategic brand reboot, showing Lohan is acutely aware that nostalgia equals engagement.

Fans and media outlets quickly piled onto the frenzy. After the premiere, Lohan updated her Instagram stories and feed with a carousel featuring multiple angles of that lavender dress, captioned “London, You’re the Ultimate!” Social metrics reported by E! News show that the post amassed hundreds of thousands of likes and shares within hours, proving followers are just as starstruck by her wardrobe as they once were by her on-screen antics.

Joining Lohan on the red carpet were costars Jamie Lee Curtis, Chad Michael Murray, Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons. Murray later told reporters his young daughter nearly fainted when she locked eyes with her childhood idol. “She’s not like that at all,” he said, mimicking his eight-year-old’s wide-eyed stare, “but meeting Lindsay threw her for a loop. She said it’s where she’s destined to be.”

The original 2003 film had its own behind-the-scenes drama that feels fittingly Hollywood. Producer Andrew Gunn initially approached Jodie Foster for the mother’s role, but she declined, fearing her own fame would overshadow the storyline, The Telegraph reported. Annette Bening was then set to star before quitting six days into pre-production, leaving the door open for Jamie Lee Curtis to dye her grey hair and learn guitar chords to revive her career and embody mother Tess Coleman.

Meanwhile, Lohan’s journey to teenage rock star status in the original was not without its bumps. After her breakout in The Parent Trap, she told IGN she was overwhelmed by sudden fame and retreated to high school life, then toyed with Disney Channel projects until the Freaky Friday script landed on her desk. That moment marked the start of her signature blend of girl-next-door charm and rebellious rocker edge.

Twenty years later, she’s back in the same halter dress, proof that in Hollywood, reruns can be just as bankable as first runs. Did anyone expect a different outcome? No? Thought so.
