Lindsay Lohan and Elaine Hendrix Reunite in Freakier Friday Magic

Lindsay Lohan and Elaine Hendrix Reunite in Freakier Friday Magic

Jordan Collins here. I guess I can simplify this for you. If you somehow missed the buzz already, “Freakier Friday” is in theaters now and it brings a nostalgic body swap sequel you did not know you needed.

More than 27 years after “The Parent Trap” introduced us to Hallie and Annie, Lindsay Lohan returns as Anna Coleman in “Freakier Friday,” the follow-up to Disney’s 2003 hit “Freaky Friday.” Elaine Hendrix, now 54, slips into the role of Blake Kale, Anna’s sharp editor at Rolling Stone, in a cameo that becomes the sweetest fan service on screen.

Here is what you probably should already know: the new film reunites Lohan with Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Chad Michael Murray as Jake. It weaves in a fresh twist when Anna and Tess find their own daughters, Harper (Julia Butters) and Lily (Sophia Hammons), tangled in a new body-swapping spree.

“I love Lindsay so much, and we had such a special experience together,” Hendrix told the New York Post. She reminded everyone that none of them predicted the staying power of “The Parent Trap” when they first met on a lavish summer camp set back in 1998. Back then, Lohan played identical twins scheming to reunite Nick Parker (Dennis Quaid) and Elizabeth James (the late Natasha Richardson), while Hendrix was cast as the gold-digging fiancée Meredith Blake.

Over two decades later, their reunion is not just a nostalgic nod. It cements a continuing friendship off screen. “Here we are, all these years later, still in the business… she was a kid, now we’re both adults, and we’re staying in touch,” Hendrix said. “The whole thing makes for one magical soup.” Regal words, but you knew that coming from someone who starred in a beloved Disney classic.

The real headline moment came at the world premiere in Los Angeles on July 22. Hendrix and her bestie and former “Parent Trap” co-star Lisa Ann Walter walked the red carpet together. Walter played the lovable housekeeper Chessy in the original. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Walter could not stop looking at Lohan and raved, “The light that’s coming out of her now, as a mom and a grown woman, is so beautiful. She just looks so happy.”

When photographers asked for a trio shot of Hendrix, Walter, and Lohan, social media practically exploded. Fans of all ages were delighted to see the three women reunite. “It was really sweet and very special,” Hendrix told the Post, as if you needed affirmation that your childhood favorites still have that onscreen chemistry.

“Freakier Friday” mixes familiar characters with a new generation of chaos and humor, ensuring Disney’s body-swapping formula still delivers. It’s a full-circle moment that honors the past while propelling everyone into fresh comedic territory. Sure, you may have your doubts about sequels, but this one might just surprise you.

Hopefully that was not too complicated.
