Khloe Kardashian’s Surprising Turn as Guardian to Tristan Thompson’s Brother

Khloe Kardashian’s Surprising Turn as Guardian to Tristan Thompson’s Brother
  • PublishedJuly 31, 2025

Hello, I’m Avery Sinclair, here to serve a cold dish of reality with a side of sarcasm. Oh, this should be fun.

Khloe Kardashian has quietly taken on a heavier family role than any red carpet appearance would suggest. In the July 30 episode of her Khloe in Wonder Land podcast, the 41-year-old shared why she stepped up as the primary caretaker for Tristan Thompson’s 18-year-old brother, Amari. The twist? Amari battles a severe form of epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, and fate dealt this family a tragic hand when their beloved mom, Andrea Thompson, passed away unexpectedly in January 2023.

Before tragedy struck, Khloe and Andrea were more than acquaintances. They were medical partners in crime. Khloe explains she helped Andrea navigate the maze of specialist doctors and handled “all of Amari’s medical appointments,” making her almost an honorary Thompson sibling long before the guardianship papers arrived. It turns out old friends stick around when things get messy, not when the selfies are flashing.

Fast-forward eight months after Andrea’s death, and Tristan, now officially granted temporary custody, moved Amari to California. However, a rookie mistake would have been ferrying an epilepsy patient around the world on Cavaliers road trips. As Khloe put it, “It is not conducive for Amari to be on that many planes” given that he can have a handful of seizures a day.

Enter Team Kardashian. Khloe, with her famed Good American brand and two stellar caretakers, has essentially become Amari’s West Coast home base. True, 7, and Tatum, 3, have welcomed their cousin with open arms and curious toddler minds. Grandma Kris Jenner reportedly bonds over playdates and medical updates, proving that this clan does loyalty as well as they do designer sweatsuits.

Khloe makes it clear her devotion has everything to do with her friendship with Andrea and nothing to do with any on-again off-again drama with Tristan. “My commitment to her has nothing to do with Tristan,” she emphasized. Whether you buy the spin or not, the fact remains that Amari got a life upgrade—private chefs, medical specialists on speed dial, and a celebrity aunt who actually shows up.

In April, Khloe threw Amari an 18th birthday bash complete with cake, balloons, and enough Instagram stories to make your head spin. Family snapshots from Tatum’s third birthday and Valentine’s Day with True pop up on Khloe’s feed, all subtly reminding us that behind the cosmetic routines and reality TV edits, real caregiving is happening.

So there you have it: Khloe carving out a no-nonsense guardian role when her sister-in-law passed away. Reality check delivered, turn off your hype filters. Nothing shocking here, folks. Let’s all act surprised.
