Keanu Reeves’ Gruesome On-Set Injury: “I Snapped My Kneecap Like a Potato Chip

I’m Quinn Parker, and I’m here to spill the tea – and I’ve got a whole pot of it! As an over-caffeinated aunt spilling thoughts faster than you can keep up, I’m about to dive into the juiciest celebrity gossip. So, buckle up, folks!
Keanu Reeves, the 61-year-old action star, recently opened up about a horrific on-set injury that left him with a broken kneecap. In a shocking revelation, Reeves described the incident as “snapping my kneecap vertically, like a potato chip” during the filming of his new comedy, “Good Fortune.” The accident occurred when Reeves was doing a cold plunge scene with co-stars Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen. As he was shuffling around in the cold, his foot got caught in a pocket on the protective carpet, causing him to fall and crack his kneecap.
Reeves’ injury was so severe that it left him with a lot of blood, and he recalled feeling like he was in slow motion as he fell. “As the pain was coming up, I was like, ‘Oh f–k. This is not good. This is quite bad,'” he told The Hollywood Reporter. Despite the gruesome injury, Reeves continued to film, and his co-stars were impressed by his dedication. Ansari, who wrote and directed the project, praised Reeves for being a “trooper” and continuing to film despite the pain.
The incident occurred in July 2024, and Ansari had previously addressed the accident at CinemaCon in April 2024, calling Reeves “such a trooper” following his knee injury. Ansari noted that Reeves completed many extreme stunts without needing “to go to the hospital or anything.” Reeves has previously spoken about his knee injury, revealing that he might not be able to handle the physical toll of doing another “John Wick” film. “You can never say never — but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick,'” he told CBS News in December.
Reeves’ dedication to his craft is admirable, but it’s also a bit concerning. I mean, who wouldn’t want to take a break and rest that knee? The “Parks and Recreation” alum also noted that Reeves has completed many extreme stunts without needing “to go to the hospital or anything.” Reeves previously told Entertainment Weekly in 2023 about a fifth “John Wick” film: “I don’t know, I guess I’m going to have to lean on never say never.”
As I wrap up this tea-spilling session, I have to say that Keanu Reeves is a true trooper. His commitment to his craft is inspiring, but it’s also a reminder that even the toughest action stars have their limits. Will he be able to bounce back from this injury, or will it be a sign of things to come? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – I’ll be keeping a close eye on this story.
Okay, I need to calm down after that!
