Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson Reunite on New York City Set, Dawson’s Creek Nostalgia Returns

Riley Carter here. Let us just sit with the fact that two of our most iconic teen drama alumni have popped back up together. For a group that defined late 90s watercooler TV, seeing Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson on a New York City sidewalk again feels like the ultimate nostalgia score.
On July 21, eyewitnesses and set photographers caught Holmes and Jackson shooting scenes for an untitled project in Manhattan. Holmes, who also directs this venture, was casually cool in a salmon colored plaid flannel over a gray tank top and navy slacks. Jackson, sporting a sage green jacket and blue jeans, flanked her with that same easy camaraderie that once defined Dawson and Joey’s onscreen friendship.
This collaboration marks their first time sharing frames since Dawson’s Creek wrapped its six season run in 2003. In an April appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s On Me podcast, Jackson emphasized their bond. “Katie and I are very close,” he shared, also noting that Busy Philipps and Michelle Williams keep tight ties as well. He added that Dawson’s Creek cast communications happen in fits and starts, but when they reconnect, it instantly feels familiar.
While Jackson’s reunion with Holmes is the headline moment of this new shoot, he also reflected on how the cast rallied around James Van Der Beek after his colorectal cancer revelation last November. “The girls all got together and were like, ‘We need to do something to help this guy out,’” Jackson recalled, praising their collective support effort.
Fans have been clamoring for a full Dawson’s Creek reunion, but it remains a logistical puzzle. In March, Busy Philipps told US Weekly that aligning everyone’s schedules is like a giant chess match. Michelle Williams and others have work commitments that make a group gathering tricky. Holmes herself weighed in during a 2022 Screen Rant interview, noting they all decided against rebooting their characters years later, preferring to preserve the original magic of teenage Capeside.
Behind the scenes, Dawson’s Creek almost never made it on air. Creator Kevin Williamson has explained that Fox first passed because they were content with another teen drama at the time. When The WB picked it up two years later, the rest became cult classic history. From Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait” theme to the network’s insistence on euphemisms like “walk the dog,” the show’s quirks became legendary, fueling fan devotion even now.
With Holmes stepping behind the camera and Jackson right beside her, this reunion feels equal parts personal and professional. Viewers can expect that familiar spark as they rediscover why Dawson and Joey still resonate two decades on.
Okay cool, so like, yeah, that happened.
