John Owen Lowe Spills His Style Secrets: From Patchwork Jeans to Dad’s Scent

I’m Avery Sinclair, a no-nonsense journalist with a healthy dose of skepticism, but even I have to admit that John Owen Lowe’s style secrets are worth exploring. As the son of actor Rob Lowe and jewelry designer Sheryl, John Owen has grown up surrounded by glamour, but his own sense of style is uniquely eclectic. Graduating from Stanford University in 2018 with a degree in science, technology, and society, John Owen has come a long way from his college days, when he confesses to wearing sweats almost daily and re-wearing the same shirt multiple times a week.
Now, at 29, John Owen has developed a keen sense of fashion that’s both fun and laid-back. He’s particularly proud of his patchwork jeans, which he often pairs with a classic scent that his dad, Rob, swears by. “I think my pops wore this first,” he says with a chuckle. “It’s a classic and it gets the job done every time. Fellas, don’t be out there smelling anything but great… please!” It’s clear that John Owen has inherited his dad’s sense of humor, but his style is distinctly his own.
John Owen’s love of thrifted vintage shirts is another aspect of his style that’s worth noting. He has amassed a collection of around 30 to 40 vintage tees, including three Coca-Cola shirts that he’s particularly fond of. “I just think combining styles of the past with some modern elements is fun and cool,” he explains. “I wish I could raid my dad’s closet from the ’80s. I’d go crazy.” This approach to fashion is refreshing, especially in an era where fast fashion dominates.
As a writer, actor, and producer, John Owen has had the opportunity to work on some exciting projects, including the Netflix comedy “Unstable,” which he co-created, wrote, and starred in alongside his dad. Playing the son of an eccentric biotech genius was a role that suited him well, and he’s grateful for the experience. “I didn’t see that coming, but that’s sort of how life works, right? It’s called failing upward!” he quips.
When it comes to his daily routine, John Owen relies on a few key essentials. He’s a self-proclaimed caffeine fiend and swears by Blue Bottle Coffee in LA, where he orders an iced Nola with cold foam. He’s also a fan of music, citing an unnamed album as one of his favorites. “Every song is incredible – and it’s great for any mood,” he says.
In addition to his love of coffee and music, John Owen prioritizes comfort and relaxation. He uses a massage tool to work out knots and is a fan of playing piano, which he’s done his entire life. “I absolutely adore it,” he says. “We can’t all have a grand piano in our house, so this is the next best option for now.” He’s also a bit of a tech enthusiast, using a gadget that helps him keep track of his keys, wallet, and phone.
John Owen’s style secrets may not be revolutionary, but they’re certainly relatable. He’s a young man who values comfort, creativity, and a dash of humor. As he continues to work on exciting projects, including a family drama executive produced by Chris Pratt, it’s clear that his sense of style will continue to evolve. For now, though, he’s happy to share his favorite fashion finds and daily essentials with the world.
And that’s today’s dose of reality. You’re welcome.
