Janelle Brown Blasts Kody & Robyn’s Yearlong Courtship as “Not Appropriate”

Janelle Brown Blasts Kody & Robyn’s Yearlong Courtship as “Not Appropriate”
  • PublishedJune 15, 2025

Oh joy, another polygamist love triangle drama to remind you why dating is already complicated enough. In a newly aired one-on-one special on TLC, Sister Wives alum Janelle Brown finally admitted what we’ve all been whispering: Kody and Robyn’s yearlong, behind-closed-doors courting while he was still married to Meri and Christine was just plain wrong. Janelle, 56, rolled her eyes and confessed to host Sukanya Krishnan that had she spent twelve months getting to know Kody Brown before tying the knot in 1993, she “might not have married him, honestly.” (Sources: E! Janelle’s bitterness is practically palpable as she recounts how Kody’s “charisma” swept her off her feet faster than you can say “polygamous patriarch.” She shared that a longer courtship would have revealed his true self beyond the slick sales pitch. Yet she also conceded, in that classic grumpy guru way, that re-writing history wouldn’t land her in a better spot: “If I were to say, ‘Oh, I’m really sorry I did all that,’ would I be in this great place?” Um, no, and thanks for the insight. All those kids—Logan, Madison, Hunter, Gabriel, Savanah and the late Garrison—are living proof that hindsight is 20/20 and innocence is bliss until you realize your spouse’s dating timeline reads like a soap script.

But let’s be clear: Kody insists his connection with Robyn was instantaneous and divine. He’s described locking eyes with her at church and feeling an undeniable bond during a first dance that “felt like we’d known each other our whole lives.” (Sources: E! Online interview quotes, TLC footage) The man apparently needed mere seconds to decide Robyn was “his forever person,” despite already balancing three wives at the time—a fact Janelle points out as “not really appropriate.” Yes, polygamy demands overlapping relationships, but yearlong courtships while your other spouses are left hanging? That’s a new level of awkward even by Sister Wives standards.

Christine and Meri have since split from Kody—Christine in 2021 and Meri in 2022—so Robyn remains the sole wife, clutching the title of fourth spouse turned sole survivor. Meanwhile, Janelle hangs up her phone with a sigh, muttering that if she’d had more time dating, she would’ve “gotten sort of off the charm ride” and probably walked away sooner.

Did anyone expect a different take from Janelle? No? Thought so. And that, dear reader, is why we can’t have nice things—or uncomplicated relationship dynamics.
