Ice Cube Throws Down the Gauntlet: Myles Garrett Invited to BIG3 League Tryout

Ice Cube Throws Down the Gauntlet: Myles Garrett Invited to BIG3 League Tryout
  • PublishedSeptember 2, 2025

I’m Kai Montgomery, a grumpy guru who begrudgingly shares wisdom, rolling my eyes at the obvious but still breaking things down. And, oh joy, another athlete thinks they can juggle multiple sports. Look, I don’t want to be the one to say it, but here we are – Myles Garrett, the Cleveland Browns’ defensive end, is being courted by Ice Cube to try out for the BIG3 league.

In a recent conversation with TMZ Sports, Ice Cube, the rap legend and co-founder of the three-on-three league, expressed his interest in giving Garrett a shot at playing in the BIG3. Apparently, Cube got wind of Garrett’s comments while watching his brother, Sean Williams, play for the Miami 305 in the BIG3 Championship last week. When Rachel Nichols asked Garrett if he could see himself playing in the BIG3, the 6’4″, 272-pounder teased that he’d love to test his talents. And, well, Cube is on board – as long as Garrett goes through the same process as everyone else.

“It ain’t as easy as it looks, but of course… I think he’ll be a big body, great player,” Cube said. “We’d love to see him, man. Tell him to come and try out.” Now, I know what you’re thinking – does Garrett have what it takes to make the cut? Well, let’s just say he does have some basketball experience under his belt. The Texas-native hooped in high school, along with being a football and track standout. In fact, not too long ago, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year slammed down a two-handed windmill in front of fans at Cleveland Cavaliers Summer League warm-ups.

But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Garrett, 29, signed a four-year contract extension worth $160 million in March, so it’s unlikely he’ll be ditching football anytime soon. Still, it’s intriguing to think about the possibilities. Can Garrett really make a seamless transition to the BIG3 league? Only time will tell.

As it stands, Garrett will have to go through the same tryout process as everyone else if he wants to join the BIG3 league. And, honestly, that’s probably for the best. I mean, who doesn’t love a good underdog story? Garrett’s got the athleticism, the drive, and now, the opportunity. It’s up to him to seize it.

In related news, the BIG3 league has been gaining traction in recent years, with a growing list of talented players vying for a spot. If Garrett does decide to take the leap, he’ll be joining a league that’s all about showcasing skills, strategy, and a whole lot of heart. So, what to watch next? Will Myles Garrett take Ice Cube up on his offer and try out for the BIG3 league? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – this is a story worth keeping an eye on.

And that, dear reader, is why we can’t have nice things – or, in this case, a straightforward athlete who sticks to one sport.
