Heartbreaking Loss: Three Teens Perish in New Jersey Highway Tragedy
  • PublishedMarch 12, 2025

In a tragic turn of events, three teenagers lost their lives in a harrowing chain-reaction crash on March 9 in Glassboro, New Jersey. The victims, 19-year-olds Brendan Cary and Dominic Reyes, along with a 17-year-old whose name has not been disclosed, were cruising along Route 55 when disaster struck around 4:17 PM. Reports from The New York Post and NBC 10 reveal that Cary, driving a Honda, clipped the rear of a Honda CRV operated by a 36-year-old woman. The impact sent Cary’s vehicle spiraling onto the shoulder of the highway, where it collided with a stationary minivan carrying a passenger and three children.

The aftermath was devastating. While the minivan’s occupants suffered injuries—including serious ones for the driver—Cary and Reyes were pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old, initially reported as critically injured, succumbed to his injuries later that night in a hospital. Their legal guardian, Laura Perez, expressed profound grief in a statement to NJ Advance Media, describing the trio as “amazing kids” who were inseparable and shared a love for cars and gaming. “It’s an immense loss that I’m not sure we will ever fully recover from,” she lamented, also extending prayers to the injured in the minivan.

The Delsea Regional School District, where Cary and Reyes were connected, expressed its sorrow through Superintendent Fran Ciociola, who described the school community as “heartbroken.” He reminisced about the joy and laughter Cary and Reyes brought to the school, underscoring the profound impact of their loss. Ciociola poignantly reminded the community of the fragility of life, urging everyone to cherish their loved ones.

As investigations into the crash continue, the local community grapples with the emotional fallout of this tragic incident. Indeed, the loss of these young lives serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of community support in times of sorrow. The ripple effects of such tragedies extend far beyond the immediate victims, touching families, friends, and the community at large.
