From Depths to Safety: The Heartwarming Rescue of Timmy the Basset Hound

In a story that could warm even the coldest of hearts, a dog named Timmy found himself in a predicament that would make even the most stoic animal lovers clutch their pearls. Trapped in a 12-foot-deep well beneath a rented house in Longview, Texas, this adventurous Basset hound mix spent days barking for help—until one keen-eared renter became his unlikely hero. Jenna George, executive director of the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center, recounted the moment the renter realized the woeful sounds were emanating from below his floorboards rather than outside. Talk about an unexpected twist in homeownership!
When animal control officer Bobby Jumper arrived on the scene, he quickly assessed the situation and confirmed that Timmy was indeed stuck below, likely without food or water for days. Jumper, who has been in the field for over seven years, described this as an unprecedented situation for him—it’s not every day you find a dog in a well! The rescue team, which included firefighters who fashioned makeshift slings, worked tirelessly for three hours to extricate the canine from his rocky prison. At one point, they even considered tearing up the floorboards, but thankfully, ingenuity prevailed.
Once safely out, Timmy was treated to food and water—both of which he devoured with gusto, a clear sign of his ordeal. Despite some minor injuries, the vet estimated him to be a healthy two years old. Unfortunately, Timmy was a stray without a microchip or identification, leading to a heart-wrenching search for his owner. After a fruitless door-to-door campaign, the shelter decided to place him up for adoption, and just like that, Timmy was destined for a new life.
His rescue even inspired a nod to classic television, as the team named him after “Timmy,” the little boy who frequently found himself in perilous situations in the beloved show *Lassie*. A firefighter initially expressed interest in adopting Timmy, but it seems our hero has a knack for choosing his human companions. After a Facebook post caught the attention of a loving adopter, Timmy found his forever home on February 27, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and charm. As George aptly put it, “He’s such a love bug,” reminding us all that sometimes, the most extraordinary tales come from the most ordinary places.
