Ex-Girlfriend Allegedly Shoots Woman During Heated Confrontation After Breakup
  • PublishedFebruary 20, 2025

A shocking incident in Jacksonville, Florida, has left a community reeling after Latorray Collins, 38, was arrested for the attempted murder of 42-year-old Latasha Taylor. The incident occurred shortly after Collins’ breakup with Taylor’s partner, leading to a confrontation that escalated uncontrollably. On February 15, following a series of phone calls and texts from Collins begging her ex-boyfriend to collect his belongings, tensions reached a boiling point, culminating in violence.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that Collins tracked down her ex-boyfriend and Taylor as they were driving, ultimately forcing a confrontation at a stoplight. After pull alongside Taylor’s vehicle, Collins reportedly exited her car and began knocking on her rival’s window. Police reports indicate that a heated verbal exchange ensued, with Collins’ ex-husband overhearing a “loud noise” just before Taylor collapsed from a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities later recovered a .380 caliber shell casing from the scene, reinforcing the severity of the situation.

Taylor’s husband, Tony, shared the emotional impact of this tragic incident. He expressed the couple’s anticipation of their upcoming 15th anniversary before the shooting took place. In an interview with Action News Jax, he recounted how Latasha had been a supportive figure during a challenging chapter in his life and described their relationship as deeply caring and life-saving. Tony indicated that his wife is fighting for her life, stating, “She wasn’t supposed to make it past Saturday, but she’s still holding on for us.”

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has not yet commented on ongoing investigations. Collins remains in custody, awaiting a trial set for March 11 at the Duval County Courthouse. This case reflects a troubling trend of domestic violence and the consequences of volatile relationships, as reported by various crime statistics. According to a report from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S., underlining the importance of addressing such issues in society more broadly.
