Eddie Murphy Cheers Son’s Wedding to Martin Lawrence’s Daughter

Coffee’s coursing through my veins and I have so much to spill about Eddie Murphy’s family tree making a gorgeous new branch. Eddie Murphy opened up to E! News at the July 28 premiere of his film The Pickup, confessing that his son Eric Murphy’s marriage to Jasmin Lawrence felt like a long-awaited family reunion rather than a formal surprise. According to Eddie, Jasmin had already been woven into the Murphy clan for years, since she and Eric dated for a couple of years before tying the knot in May.
At that point, they opted for an intimate elopement instead of a grand ceremony, surprising some fans but not Eddie. “They were gonna have a big wedding, then they went off and did a little thing,” Eddie told E! News. He emphasized that he doesn’t pressure his kids about weddings or grandchildren, saying, “I’m never pushing them. I think it’s a beautiful blessing and whenever it happens, it happens.”
The joy isn’t one-sided. Just a day before Eddie confirmed his son’s nuptials, Martin Lawrence gushed to Jennifer Hudson on her May 28 talk show that Eric is “a great young man.” Martin, who shares Jasmin with Patricia Southall, echoed Eddie’s laid-back parenting approach: protectively supportive yet hands-off enough to let their kids forge their own paths.
When asked about footing the wedding bill, Eddie jokingly reminded viewers of Martin’s relief. As Eddie quipped on The Jennifer Hudson Show in May, the intimate elopement meant that Martin no longer needed to “pay for a wedding.” But money wasn’t the only motivator for Eric, 36, and Jasmin, 29. Their Instagram engagement post from November 2023 revealed a couple convinced of destiny. “God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny,” Jasmin wrote, while Eric praised his bride for inspiring him and making time feel still.
To put this union into a broader context, Eddie’s brood spans almost three decades in age. His eldest, Eric, was born in July 1989 to Paulette McNeely. Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola and Bella followed with Nicole Murphy. Christian arrived with Tamara Hood, Angel with Mel B, and youngest children Izzy and Max were born to wife Paige Butcher. Speaking with Gayle King for CBS Mornings in July 2024, Eddie described himself as “laid back” but present for every school play and milestone, noting that his youngest have an easier ride when it comes to parental strictness.
Eric has largely stayed behind the camera, doing voice work for animated projects like Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate and even some of his father’s films. Fans often comment on how much he sounds like Eddie, which must make family gatherings extra entertaining.
