Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Premiere Axed: Grumpy Actor Speaks Out Amid Controversy

Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Premiere Axed: Grumpy Actor Speaks Out Amid Controversy
  • PublishedMarch 12, 2025

In a twist fit for a fairy tale, Disney’s highly anticipated live-action “Snow White” has found itself in a quagmire of controversy, culminating in the cancellation of its grand red carpet premiere. Martin Klebba, the voice actor behind Grumpy from the film, expressed his dismay over the decision, lamenting that the hard work of the cast and crew was overshadowed by the political opinions of lead stars Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler. Klebba articulated a sentiment shared by many: while everyone is entitled to their views, those opinions should not eclipse the collective effort put into creating a cinematic experience.

The controversy surrounding “Snow White” has been multifaceted, stemming from reactions to the leads’ political statements, which some argue have distracted from the film’s artistic merit. According to Variety, Disney’s decision to scale back the premiere was heavily influenced by these ongoing discussions, which have ruffled more than a few feathers in the film industry. This is not the first time a major film has faced backlash over its cast’s personal beliefs; similar instances have occurred with productions like “The Last Jedi,” where cast members faced intense scrutiny for their social media activities.

Adding another layer to the controversy, the casting of non-little people actors to portray the dwarfs has sparked significant debate, particularly following Peter Dinklage’s criticism when the project was first announced. Klebba clarified that the use of motion-capture technology for dwarf characters was always the plan, countering claims that it was a reaction to Dinklage’s comments. However, he also acknowledged the difficulty little people face in securing significant roles in Hollywood, hinting that this could have been an opportunity for greater representation.

Despite the clouds of controversy, Klebba remains hopeful that audiences will go see “Snow White” for what it aims to be: pure entertainment. So, as the saying goes, “Heigh-Ho, it’s off to the movies we go!”—albeit without the fanfare that Disney’s original vision intended.
