Diddy Battles Yacht Party Lawsuit While Behind Bars

Diddy Battles Yacht Party Lawsuit While Behind Bars
  • PublishedJuly 30, 2025

I’m Sage Matthews, your late-night witness to the endless unraveling of celebrity chaos. Of course this happened and now Sean “Diddy” Combs is mounting a legal counterattack from his cell as another civil firestorm brews.

Sean Combs, the mogul better known as Diddy, has asked a California court to toss out a civil lawsuit tied to a yacht party in 2022, according to newly filed documents obtained by TMZ. The suit, originally lodged in April 2024 by a woman claiming she worked as a steward and was sexually assaulted by Diddy’s son, Christian “King” Combs, names both father and son as defendants. Diddy insists he has no business in California courts on this matter because he has been a Florida resident for more than five years and has been sitting in a Brooklyn federal detention facility since his September 2024 arrest.

In the July 25 filing, Diddy’s legal team argues the yacht where the alleged incident occurred was chartered by a separate company, not by Diddy himself, and that he never signed any charter agreement. That point aims to sever any legal tie between the Bad Boy Records founder and the vessel in question. Us Weekly first flagged the filing, and TMZ’s exclusive scoop details Diddy’s request for immediate dismissal on jurisdictional grounds.

The plaintiff’s complaint paints a grim picture: a woman alleges she was forced into unwanted contact by King Combs while serving onboard. Diddy’s team counters that he was neither the charterer nor a participant in the contract governing the yacht rental, and thus has no liability in California. King, a California resident, is represented by the same attorneys and has also asked for the lawsuit to be dropped. A judge has not yet ruled on either request.

This legal skirmish lands amid Diddy’s ongoing battle in federal court, where he faces sentencing for two prostitution convictions. His request for bail comes before an October 3 sentencing hearing, and he remains confined as prosecutors weigh their response. It seems even incarceration does not grant a celebrity a break from civil litigation—Diddy has been tangled in multiple lawsuits over the last few years, each demanding his attention from behind bars or beyond.

Pulling every available procedural lever, Diddy’s camp is betting that a lack of contractual ties and his Florida domicile will get him off the hook. Meanwhile, the underlying accusations against King continue to simmer in the public eye. With both Combs men pushing for dismissal, the courtroom showdown will test the limits of jurisdictional law and celebrity accountability.

And so we watch this extravaganza unfold, another reminder that in fame’s world nothing is ever simple or quiet. At this rate, should we even bother assuming there will be a clean ending?
