Devil Wears Prada 2 Snubs Adrian Grenier in Sequel Shakeup

Devil Wears Prada 2 Snubs Adrian Grenier in Sequel Shakeup
  • PublishedJuly 1, 2025

Look, I don’t want to be the one to tell you this, but Hollywood logic strikes again: Adrian Grenier’s Nate Cooper isn’t making the cut for The Devil Wears Prada 2, premiering in May 2026. Cue the collective shrug from anyone who remembered our hero-turned-villain broke up with Andy Sachs back in 2006. Yes, that’s right—after nearly two decades of wondering if Nate might redeem himself, the studio quietly confirmed via Entertainment Weekly and E! News that Grenier won’t return. I told you so.

Grenier himself confessed back in 2021 that Nate’s sole mission was self-service, admitting in an EW interview that he was “immature” and “selfish,” failing to support Anne Hathaway’s Andy in her meteoric rise at Runway magazine. Surprise, surprise: Hollywood moves on, especially when the character arc peaked in a breakup montage. So Nate will stay on the cutting-room floor where he belongs.

But don’t start sharpening your pitchforks—Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep are strutting back onto the set. EW confirms Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt will also slip into their Jimmy Choos once more, while Kenneth Branagh debuts as Miranda Priestly’s unsuspecting spouse. The plot will tackle Miranda’s battle against magazine obsolescence, pitting her iconic iron will against Emily Charlton (Blunt), who’s now peddling high-end ads. Andy’s trajectory remains shrouded in designer tissue paper, though she teased to E! News that she’s a staff writer at a chic French women’s mag, possibly juggling motherhood and bylines. Groundbreaking stuff.

Let’s not forget how The Devil Wears Prada became a film before readers even held the paperback. Variety recalls Fox 2000 snagging Lauren Weisberger’s manuscript after only 100 pages, convinced Miranda Priestly was “one of the greatest villains ever.” Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna whipped up a script in a month, then layered on more cattiness after a fashion insider grumbled everyone was too nice.

Researching Vogue’s Anna Wintour connection wasn’t a picnic, either. McKenna told Entertainment Weekly that sources were terrified of being blackballed. Even snagging locations at The Met felt like navigating a bureaucratic runway. Original director David Frankel spilled that getting permission to shoot in real fashion hotspots required more begging than runway models asking for water.

So here we are, awaiting Prada Part Deux. Will Andy finally find her haute-Parisian bliss? Can Miranda conquer a dying print empire? Will Nate’s absence matter to anyone who wasn’t already snoozing? Stay tuned, because sequels love throwing curveballs at the naive—and that, dear reader, is why we can’t have nice things.
