Court Documents Reveal Columbus Short Abuse Allegations and Injury Photos

Court Documents Reveal Columbus Short Abuse Allegations and Injury Photos
  • PublishedJuly 14, 2025

Another day, another cringefest in Tinseltown. Aida Abramyan-Short stormed into court on July 14 armed with photos and a stack of paperwork claiming that husband Columbus Short has been roughing her up for years. She asked for a temporary restraining order and sole custody of their two children; the judge granted the restraining order but denied the custody demand.

According to court filings obtained by TMZ, Aida alleges that the actor’s violence escalated as recently as July 7. She says she was folding laundry when Columbus, “boozing” as she puts it, snapped. In her sworn statement she recalls holding a sheet when he exploded: “Don’t slam the f***ing door bitch. Your mouth is gonna get you in trouble. Shut the f*** up!” Then, she claims, he shoved her, grabbed her and put both hands around her neck. A neighbor reportedly called 911 after hearing Aida scream “My husband is choking me, help!” The documents include photos of bruises, scratches and a black eye from alleged past incidents.

This filing appears to counter a protective order Columbus obtained against Aida the same day. As first reported by TMZ, Columbus says Aida kicked and pushed their 10-week-old puppy, leaving him with a busted eye and drawing blood. He claims police came, arrested her and issued their own emergency order to keep her away. Aida’s papers acknowledge law enforcement did respond but do not address the puppy allegation in detail.

Aida also warns the court that Columbus has a history of DUI arrests and a “severe” daily drinking problem that leaves him belligerent and violent. She fears for her safety and that of their kids when he drives them or when they’re alone with him. Her request asks the judge to keep Columbus at least 100 yards from her and the children.

Columbus Short, best known for his role on the hit TV show Scandal, has had legal troubles before, including a 2014 assault charge and a year later pleading guilty to misdemeanor battery. Short served probation and completed a 52-week domestic violence program. Now the ex-army veteran turned actor finds himself in family court again, this time battling his own spouse’s claims.

The judge’s decision to grant Aida’s temporary restraining order means Columbus must maintain distance immediately. The denial of sole custody shows the court wants more evidence before changing parental rights. Aida has until the next hearing to bolster her case, and Columbus can fight back in family court.

With both sides claiming violence and police involvement, this showdown is far from over. The next hearing will determine whether Aida’s evidence can outweigh Columbus’s counterclaims and whether the two can find any middle ground. Until then the star of Scandal will have to keep his distance—and the public will keep watching every move.

Nothing shocking here, folks. Let’s all act surprised.
