Charlie Cox Sets the Record Straight on Avengers Rumors

Charlie Cox Sets the Record Straight on Avengers Rumors
  • PublishedFebruary 20, 2025

Charlie Cox recently found himself at the center of an online whirlwind after a seemingly innocent photo posted by a gym in Australia sparked rampant speculation about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The post originally claimed Cox was “training for his role in the upcoming Avengers movie,” which caused fans to speculate wildly that he would reprise his role as Daredevil in the much-anticipated “Avengers: Doomsday,” set for release in 2026. However, Cox has clarified that such assumptions are “not true,” emphasizing that he is solely focused on his role in “Daredevil: Born Again.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 40-year-old actor explained that the confusion stemmed from his visit to the gym during Christmas, where he was photographed and mentioned he was preparing for Daredevil’s second season. “I had to call my bosses and say, ‘I didn’t say that,’ obviously,” he reflected, showing his disbelief over the unexpected fallout. The intended context of the photo was muddled, leading to the mistaken interpretation about his involvement in future Avengers films.

“Daredevil: Born Again” is set to premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2024. The series will pick up after the original “Daredevil” show, which aired on Netflix from 2015-2018. In this new iteration, Cox’s character, Matt Murdock, has retired from being a vigilante. He faces off against his old adversary, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), who has ambitions for a mayoral seat in NYC. Several cast members from the Netflix series will return, adding to the continuity with the original story.

As Cox prepares for the highly-anticipated Disney+ series, he remains in the dark about any further MCU commitments beyond season two of “Daredevil.” Showrunner Dario Scardapane confirmed that filming for the second season will begin just days after the first season’s debut. Cox hinted that he would love to see his journey as Daredevil continue within the MCU, but for now, he is focused solely on bringing the character back to fans through “Daredevil: Born Again,” showing that while crossover rumors captivate audiences, he is keeping his feet firmly planted in the role he first made famous.
