Channing Tatum Opens Up About “Painful” Jenna Dewan Divorce: The Real Story

Channing Tatum Opens Up About “Painful” Jenna Dewan Divorce: The Real Story
  • PublishedSeptember 2, 2025

I’m Avery Sinclair, a no-nonsense journalist with a healthy dose of skepticism. I’ve got the scoop on Channing Tatum’s recent comments about his divorce from Jenna Dewan, and let’s just say it’s a complicated mess. Nearly a year after their divorce was finalized, Channing Tatum has finally spoken out about the “painful” split from his ex-wife Jenna Dewan, with whom he shares a 12-year-old daughter, Everly Tatum.

In a recent interview with Variety, Channing Tatum revealed that he and Jenna Dewan are “good now,” but the divorce was a difficult process, especially given their young age at the time. “Jenna and I are good now, but it was a painful break to have that fall apart, especially being so young,” he said. “We tried to keep it together, tried for a year and a half.” While Channing Tatum stopped short of delving into the details, he did express the challenges of co-parenting, admitting that it’s “really tough not to have your daughter half the time. I wish I could just have her all the time.”

This isn’t the first time Jenna Dewan has spoken out about their divorce. Earlier this year, she wrote an essay for InStyle, reflecting on her personal growth and resilience in the face of their public split. “In 2024, especially, I learned a lot about myself, my resilience, and my voice,” she wrote. “I learned to let go of over-accommodating in my relationships and to sit with uncomfortability. What it really means to trust.” Like Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan acknowledged that their 12-year marriage was beyond repair, stating that “sometimes things break because you don’t fit in that vessel anymore, and that’s okay.”

Despite their seemingly amicable comments, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan are still embroiled in a dispute over financial matters. In April 2024, Dewan filed documents requesting that she and Tatum testify regarding their marriage, including business and financial activities. She also submitted a preliminary exhibit list requesting personal and corporate tax returns, as well as documents related to the profits from the Magic Mike franchise. Dewan alleges that she and Tatum acquired the Magic Mike intellectual property together, but Tatum disputes this claim, arguing that his post-separation efforts have given him a separate property interest in the intellectual property.

The court will ultimately need to allocate the community interest and Tatum’s separate property interest in the intellectual property and related entities. Dewan has also included several witnesses in her preliminary witness list, including director Steven Soderbergh and producers Nick Wechsler and Peter Kiernan, who worked on the Magic Mike trilogy with Tatum.

As the dust settles on their divorce, it’s clear that Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan are still navigating the complexities of co-parenting and financial disputes. While they’ve both expressed a desire to move forward, it’s evident that their split has been a difficult and painful process for both parties.

And that’s today’s dose of reality. You’re welcome.
