Cardi B Throws Shade and a Marker: Rapper Cleared of Assault in LA Trial
  • PublishedSeptember 3, 2025

I’m Avery Sinclair, a sharp-tongued journalist with a no-BS approach to celebrity gossip. Let’s get down to business with the latest Cardi B drama. Cardi B’s life has been a whirlwind of controversy lately, but yesterday’s court appearance took the cake. The rapper was in the middle of a lunch break during her civil assault trial in Los Angeles when a photographer sparked her ire.

The incident began when an unidentified photographer yelled out a question about Cardi B’s pregnancy rumors and her relationship with Offset, her estranged husband. “Cardi, insiders are claiming Offset is publicly bragging about getting you pregnant for the fourth time,” the man shouted. “Do you foresee any paternity issues with Stefon Diggs?” This line of questioning clearly struck a nerve with Cardi B, who was exiting an Alhambra courthouse at the time.

Cardi B, known for her fiery personality, didn’t hesitate to express her discontent. She launched a marker in the photographer’s direction, saying, “Stop disrespecting me. Don’t disrespect me.” The photographer, seemingly unfazed, responded with, “I still love you even though you just threw some stuff at me.” Cardi B shot back, “I don’t care. You’re disrespectful. Don’t do that.” She then took a moment to scold the photographer, asking, “Do you see women asking those type of questions to me? Why do you feel, as a man, you get to ask me those type of questions? Act like you have some manners. Your momma taught you, respect women.”

This heated exchange wasn’t the only drama Cardi B faced yesterday. Earlier in the day, she was on trial for a $24 million lawsuit filed by her former security guard, Emani Ellis, in 2020. Ellis accused Cardi B of a physical altercation outside a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office in 2018, claiming the rapper scratched her with her fingernails, spat on her, and shouted racial slurs. Cardi B denied these allegations, testifying that she had a “verbal altercation” with Ellis.

The jury ultimately found Cardi B not liable for assault and battery, clearing her of the charges. After the verdict, Cardi B seemed relieved, jumping into a waiting vehicle and rolling down the windows to address her fans. “Y’all are not going to see me after that, and you can thank him,” she said, referencing the photographer. “I’m not playing around. I was very nice, I was very kind … Nobody’s going to get that no more.”

In the end, Cardi B walked away from the courthouse with a win, but not before making it clear that she won’t tolerate disrespect from anyone. As for the photographer, let’s just say he won’t be winning any awards for tact anytime soon.

And that’s today’s dose of reality. You’re welcome.
