Beyoncé’s Mom Life: A Glimpse into Her World with Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir Carter

Hi, I’m Jaden Patel, and I’m here to dish out the tea on Beyoncé’s mom life – and trust me, it’s piping hot. The Queen Bey is leading by example when it comes to parenting her three kids, Blue Ivy Carter, 13, and 8-year-old twins Rumi Carter and Sir Carter with husband Jay-Z. It seems like there’s room in the spotlight for whoever wants to be in it – and the kids are taking full advantage.
In a recent chat with E! News, grandma Tina Knowles spilled that 8-year-old Sir Carter is “more into books and electronics,” while his twin sister Rumi Carter “is a natural little star.” And let’s be real, seeing Rumi onstage with big sister Blue Ivy Carter on opening night of their mom’s Cowboy Carter Tour in April left no doubt as to who’s running this world.
Beyoncé has been open about her approach to parenting, telling GQ in 2024, “I build my work schedule around my family. I try to only tour when my kids are out of school. I always dreamt of a life where I could see the world with my family and expose them to different languages, architecture, and lifestyles.” She’s also aware that raising three kids isn’t easy, especially as they get older and develop their own interests.
In the household she shares with her husband of 17 years, Blue, Rumi, and Sir all have the freedom to explore their passions. Beyoncé gushed, “Blue is an artist. She has great taste in music and fashion. She is a fantastic editor, painter, and actress. She has been creating characters since she was three.” And while the teen is “a natural” when it comes to dancing, Beyoncé admitted, “I did not want Blue onstage. Blue wanted it for herself.”
Though her 2023 debut as a backup dancer was supposed to be a one-off, Blue successfully convinced her wary mom that she was ready to hit the road, as seen in the documentary Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé. So, there was no question that Blue would appear on the Cowboy Carter Tour as well – and fans are loving every minute of it, with one fan wielding a “We Love U Manager Blue” sign during a May show in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Rumi didn’t want to wait another tour cycle to get in on the family business. During a May 19 stop on her Matriarch book tour, Tina Knowles revealed, “You know my granddaughter Rumi told me, I said, ‘How do you feel when you wave and everybody screams?’ She said, ‘It feels powerful.'” It’s clear that Beyoncé’s kids are comfortable in the spotlight – but their mom is working hard to shield them from the perils of their parents’ fame.
Beyoncé emphasized, “One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my kids can have as much normalcy and privacy as possible, ensuring my personal life isn’t turned into a brand. It’s very easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art. I have made an extreme effort to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money is worth my peace.” And let’s be real, with a combined net worth estimated to be upward of $3 billion, time is the most precious currency for Jay-Z and Beyoncé.
The singer has been open about the challenges of balancing work and life, telling Elle in 2019, “Making sure I am present for my kids—dropping Blue off at school, taking Rumi and Sir to their activities, making time for date nights with my husband, and being home in time to have dinner with my family—all while running a company can be challenging. Juggling all of those roles can be stressful, but I think that’s life for any working mom.” Two years—and one pandemic lockdown—later, Beyoncé was throwing around a different kind of f-word, telling Harper’s Bazaar ahead of her 40th birthday in 2021, “My wish is for my 40s to be fun and full of freedom. I want to feel the same freedom I feel on stage every day of my life. I want to explore aspects of myself I haven’t had time to discover and to enjoy my husband and my children.”
As Beyoncé celebrates her 44th birthday on September 4, it’s clear that her mom life is a top priority – and we’re loving every minute of it. With her kids growing up and finding their own passions, it’s going to be interesting to see how Beyoncé balances her work and family life in the years to come.
And that’s a wrap – Beyoncé’s mom life is a true inspiration, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for this power family.
