Another Gifford Joins the Overpopulation Crisis: Kathie Lee’s Son Expanding Family
Great, another celebrity offspring multiplying while the planet chokes on carbon emissions. Kathie Lee Gifford’s son Cody and his wife Erika are expecting their third child, because apparently two wasn’t enough in this already resource-depleted world. The couple announced the news on Instagram with nauseating enthusiasm, dubbing their expanding brood “Gifford, Party of Cinco.” How original.
The pair shared their “joyous” news with matching Instagram posts featuring their current children, son Frank Michael (16 months) and daughter Frankie (2½), wearing t-shirts declaring “Big Brother” and “Big Sister” status. Because nothing says “thoughtful family planning” like turning your existing children into walking billboards for your reproductive choices.
This will be grandchild number three for former TODAY co-host Kathie Lee Gifford, who’s undoubtedly ecstatic about having yet another mini-human to parade around on social media. The 70-year-old television personality already dotes on her daughter Cassidy’s son, Finn, born in June 2022. The celebrity grandparent industrial complex continues unabated.
Cody, 34, and Erika, 32, first blessed the world with their union in September 2020, hosting a wedding during a pandemic because timing is clearly not their strong suit. Their firstborn, Frank, arrived in May 2022, named after Cody’s late father, NFL player and sportscaster Frank Gifford. Their daughter Frankie followed in June 2023. Notice a naming pattern? Nothing says “creative parenting” like recycling the same name for multiple children.
The couple’s announcement included the predictably saccharine caption: “Gifford, Party of Cinco coming June 2024 ????????.” How refreshing to see them borrowing from a defunct restaurant chain for their baby announcement. The post also featured ultrasound images, because apparently medical privacy is so last century.
Kathie Lee expressed her standard grandmother excitement when Frankie was born last year, posting on Instagram: “What a beautiful, precious, gift from God you are, little honey.” One can only imagine the equally clichéd response she’ll have ready for grandchild number three.
The timing is particularly ironic as reports indicate climate scientists are increasingly choosing not to have children due to environmental concerns, but sure, let’s celebrate another celebrity family’s contribution to the population boom. Meanwhile, housing costs continue to skyrocket, childcare remains unaffordable for average Americans, and the planet gets warmer by the day.
I’m sure the new Gifford will enter a world of privilege, designer baby clothes, and Instagram photo shoots while the rest of us wonder if Social Security will still exist when we retire. But hey, congratulations on the expanding family. I’m sure this third child is exactly what the world needed right now.
