Anne Hathaway’s Verity Movie Arrives October 2026: Everything to Know

Accurate reporting and context matter. Here is what we know about Verity’s upcoming release. Studio insiders confirmed that the romantic thriller Verity, featuring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, will hit theaters October 2, 2026, according to Deadline. Adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling 2018 novel, this film marks Hoover’s second major screen translation following 2024’s It Ends With Us.
Verity went into production in early 2025 under the direction of Michael Showalter. Fans received early confirmation of a wrap in April when Hathaway shared an Instagram video flipping through the final script, captioned, “So Be It… that’s a wrap on the #VerityMovie production!” (Instagram). The announcement set social media alight, underscoring high expectations for the star-studded cast and the source material’s devoted readership.
On-location shots throughout New York City offered tantalizing previews. In February, Hathaway and Hartnett were seen filming what appears to be the pivotal meet-cute between Verity Crawford and Jeremy Crawford, hopping into a waiting limo while holding hands and laughing. Variety obtained the film’s official logline, which foreshadows a chilling family secret: “Upon arrival at the lavish Crawford estate, Lowen slowly learns that things are not exactly as they seem with the discovery of a secret, unfinished manuscript that may divulge chilling admissions about the family’s past. As Lowen ingratiates herself with Jeremy and his young son Crew, she must discern if Verity’s writings are merely lurid works of fiction or an ominous warning by a deranged psychopath.”
March brought another dramatic glimpse when Dakota Johnson, portraying Lowen Ashleigh, witnessed a staged accident in which a cyclist was struck by a car, splattering her character in theatrical blood. This sequence underscores the film’s commitment to blending romance with thriller elements as Lowen, a struggling ghostwriter, moves into the Crawford home to complete Verity’s popular book series after the author is incapacitated.
Johnson spoke to Deadline in May, acknowledging her character’s moral complexity. “I’m basically the bad guy,” she said. “It’s so fun.” She admitted she was unfamiliar with the novel before auditioning, but quickly recognized the fervent fan base Hoover commands. This star endorsement, combined with Hathaway’s dual role as lead and producer, signals Amazon MGM Studios’ confidence in Verity.
Strategically slated for an early October release, the film aims to capture audiences drawn to psychological thrillers and literary adaptations just as awards season buzz begins to build. With a proven director, an acclaimed cast, and a built-in readership, Verity is poised to be one of fall 2026’s most talked-about releases. More updates will follow as marketing materials emerge and the studio unveils the first trailer.
