Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett Bring Colleen Hoover’s “Verity” to Life in NYC

Hold onto your seats, book lovers and movie buffs—Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett are diving headfirst into the eerie world of Colleen Hoover’s psychological thriller, “Verity.” The dynamic duo was recently spotted filming on the bustling streets of New York City, looking like they’re racing toward a plot twist—holding hands and decked out in semi-formal chic attire. Seriously, who doesn’t love a good couple’s run in the city?
For those not in the know, “Verity,” based on Hoover’s self-published 2018 novel, is all about a struggling writer named Lowen (played by Dakota Johnson) who lands a dream gig—or is it a nightmare? She’s tasked with finishing the series of a famous author, Verity, who’s mysteriously incapacitated. As Lowen digs into the Crawford family’s secrets—cue dramatic music—she stumbles upon an unfinished manuscript that leaves her questioning her sanity. While doing so, she also has to navigate the troubled dynamics of Verity’s husband (played by Hartnett) and her son, Crew, maintaining a delicate balance between intrigue and horror.
Hathaway, 42, portrays Verity herself, stepping into the role after her casting was confirmed in late 2024. Hartnett, now 46, warms our hearts (and possibly chills our spines) as he partners up with her in this twisted tale. Their casting sparked excitement and buzz, with Hoover expressing her own giddy feelings at the premiere of her previous adaptation, “It Ends With Us,” earlier this year. The author seems to be fully embracing the Hollywood spotlight, as she noted, “I’m so excited that this one’s finally starting to take off.”
Directed by Michael Showalter, who previously teamed up with Hathaway on “The Idea of You,” the film is set to deliver a unique blend of psychological tension and drama. Although we’re still waiting on an official release date from Amazon MGM Studios, the thriller is flipping through the calendar, and anticipation is building.
So, mark your calendars, grab your favorite thriller snacks, and prepare for “Verity”—because if there’s one thing the readers want, it’s a glimpse into the dark secrets that might unveil a terrifying reality.
