During an August 7 appearance on Kansas City sports radio station 96.5 The Fan, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid let slip that he has more than a few anecdotes up his sleeve for a hypothetical nuptials between tight end Travis Kelce and global superstar Taylor Swift. Reid quipped that some stories are “off limits,” but he insisted he’d focus on Kelce’s unsung heroics—like quietly supporting charitable causes and helping folks outside the stadium lights.
Reid went out of his way to clarify that his connection with the Swift family isn’t a recent development. He reminded listeners that his own family has been a “big fan” of Taylor long before Kelce slid into her DMs. Reid even bonded with Taylor’s dad, Scott Swift, over football back in the Philadelphia area, long before Taylor became arguably the most famous woman on the planet after the Queen’s passing, as the coach dryly noted on NFL on NBC earlier this year.
In true no-nonsense style, Reid admitted he admires Taylor’s handling of megastar life just as much as he appreciates how Kelce conducts himself on and off the field. “They’re not a distraction by any means,” Reid said. He pointed out that Swift’s presence at games and her public support of Kelce have opened doors for new audiences, boosting interest in female flag football, college programs, and even Olympic prospects.
When pressed for which Taylor album he owns, Reid confessed to having the Red album in his collection. No surprise that a coach would pick a record with plenty of plays and heartbreak anthems—though one has to wonder if he’s ever actually pressed play between game plans.
This isn’t Reid’s first public salute to the power couple. He previously referred to Swift as “part of the team” alongside other Chiefs wives and girlfriends, treating her like any member of Reid’s extended football family rather than a media circus headline.
Of course, the entire whirlwind began when Kelce finally admitted he had a celebrity crush—spoiler alert, it wasn’t a movie star but a Grammy winner. A TikTok video from August 2023 caught teammate Marquez Valdes-Scantling calling out “Taylor Swift!” before Kelce flashed a grin and tried to play it cool behind his finger mustache gesture. Their low-key romance eventually led to that now-iconic shot of Taylor cheering in a Chiefs cap, sparking more headlines than any touchdown Reid has ever coached.
If Kelce and Swift really do walk down the aisle someday, Reid’s toast will be a highlight reel of big hearts and team spirit—minus any embarrassing locker-room stories he can’t legally share. And honestly, isn’t that about as thrilling as we can expect?
