Scott shared with Variety that the whole scene was quite the spectacle. As he stood applauding Dern, who took home the award for Best Supporting Actress in “Marriage Story,” the pain hit him like a freight train. Instead of gliding through the event, he found himself crawling out of the room and desperately attempting to strip off his tuxedo. Scott, who had dealt with kidney stones before (a lovely gift from the universe we wouldn’t wish on our worst enemies), knew precisely what was happening. But it didn’t make it any less chaotic. As he recalled, Waller-Bridge was heroically fetching water for him as he churned in pain, and, remarkably, he could still hear Dern’s speech in the background while he was being whisked away to the hospital. “It happens immediately,” Scott said.
