Allison Holker Finally Owns Up to ‘Almond Mom’ Phase—and Embraces Parenting Balance

Allison Holker Finally Owns Up to ‘Almond Mom’ Phase—and Embraces Parenting Balance
  • PublishedJune 23, 2025

Get this: Allison Holker once judged her daughter’s worth by how many almonds she managed to eat—and she’s just confessed to her ‘almond mom’ tenure. On a June 22 episode of her Between Us podcast, the So You Think You Can Dance alum’s eldest, 17-year-old Weslie, spilled the tea that mom’s idea of a balanced diet was strictly kale, organic chicken, and “no processed snacks ever.” Allison, now 37, didn’t even try to dodge the allegation. She admitted that during Weslie’s early years she was the human equivalent of a walking Whole Foods aisle, whipping up school lunches loaded with dried fruits and every imaginable nut variety.

Naturally, that didn’t sit well whenever Weslie was left unsupervised—and according to the teen, she’d raid every gas-station snack aisle she could find. Eventually, Holker realized her hyper-controlled approach was a tad much. She confessed on the show that she’d been “diligent” to a fault, researching every label in the pantry while believing it made her a “perfect mom.” Surprise: micromanaging your child’s quinoa intake doesn’t actually win any parenting awards.

Fast-forward to now, and Holker’s approach is night and day. Her younger two kids, Maddox, 9, and Zaia, 5, reportedly enjoy more leniency—yes, that includes chips without mom’s patented side-eye. She jokes that she’s discovered the radical concept of “balance,” allowing treats and teaching moderation instead of total restriction. She even acknowledges that watching Weslie devour Cheetos when mom wasn’t looking taught her that strict rules backfire harder than any spilled almond milk fiasco.

Beyond dietary epiphanies, Allison has been sharing sweeter family moments on social media. In October 2023, she posted an adorable snap of Weslie at her homecoming dance. Over the summer, TikTok fans got their first new dance video from Holker since Stephen “tWitch” Boss’s passing—where she and Weslie reenacted Titanic’s “My Heart Will Go On” remix. The family also turned heads at the Los Angeles premiere of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in May 2023, reinforcing that life (and love) goes on, popcorn and all.

So here we are: once a self-appointed snack dictator, now a laid-back mom who trusts her kids to sometimes choose Doritos over dill kale chips. And in case you thought Allison’s pivot was just a culinary sideshow, stay tuned—she promises more parenting plot twists ahead. Nothing shocking here, folks, but welcome to the wellness era 2.0. That’s today’s dose of gratefully balanced reality. You’re welcome.
