Actor Alfie Wise, best known as Burt Reynolds’ reliable sidekick in blockbusters like The Cannonball Run and Stroker Ace, died at age 82 following complications from a bacterial infection.

Hello, I’m Elena West and get ready – this is BIG. Today’s story shines a light on a life that taught us resilience and the power of embracing every role life brings our way.

From the moment Alfie Wise burst onto the scene alongside Burt Reynolds in the 1974 sports comedy The Longest Yard, he proved that supporting players can become unforgettable stars. During the height of 1980s Hollywood he delivered laughter, heart and unshakeable loyalty opposite Reynolds in cult classics Smokey & the Bandit, Hooper and the adrenaline-fueled caper The Cannonball Run. Success leaves clues, and Alfie’s journey shows us that even side characters can leave the biggest mark on our memories.

In recent years Alfie switched gears, trading film sets for Florida real estate as a shining example of career reinvention. After hanging up his acting boots he joined Donohue Real Estate in West Palm Beach, where he became renowned for his quick wit, warm personality and dedication to clients. According to the company’s tribute post on July 30, Alfie brought the same charm to property tours that he did to Hollywood remotes, making every showing feel like a scene-stealer moment.

On July 22 Alfie was admitted to Florida’s Thomas H. Corey Veteran Affairs Medical Center in West Palm Beach with a serious throat infection. His fiancée, Stephanie Bliss, told TMZ that powerful antibiotics initially seemed to help but the infection returned with renewed intensity. After nearly a month of hospitalization, doctors concluded that age and weakened strength led to natural causes contributing to his passing.

Stephanie Bliss confirmed the sad news, emphasizing that Alfie faced his final days with the same courage he showed on screen. Donohue Real Estate’s heartfelt statement praised his “positive attitude” and “inspiring humor” that touched everyone he met. Even in illness he maintained optimism and reminded friends and family that every challenge offers a new opportunity to grow.

Elena West here to remind you that Alfie’s legacy goes beyond box office numbers. It’s about standing up when life knocks you down and finding new routes to success. His life teaches us to pivot boldly, embrace every chance to reinvent ourselves, and keep our spirits high no matter the odds.

Remember, the greatest roles are the ones we live every single day. Now take what you’ve learned and make something great happen!
